Thinking of leaving the Cruise rocket, TC 550 all cash, for something solid, pre IPO at like 450TC or under but larger equity upside potential. Is this stupid?
Go for it. YOLO. Cruise is a shit show anyway.
Give it a shot. Cruise is done.
Idk if I would ever feel safe at cruise but 550k cash is too much for me to give up
It’s a risk. What are your obligations? Dependents ?
Low debt, LCOL, but low net worth, so walking away from a nice savings egg is painful. I keep seeing people drop out of here but it seems pretty dumb to leave before it's over when the pay is so insanely good for full cash? I guess these people are loaded and basically want to gamble on mega IPO wealth?
Cash is king.
Depends on which company?
I would prefer pre-IPO for less comp but I haven’t found the right company yet. I joined Cruise since I wanted significant upside potential. We don’t have that anymore so I’ll leave when I find the right opportunity. I think if Cruise wants to keep high performing engineers they need to grant us all a pile of cheap stock options or whatever, and fix things so that they stop screwing us on taxes and liquidity risk. I’d be more likely to stay if I had some large upside equity type component as compensation for dealing with this extremely risky company that has a bad track record. I’ve seen half my team quit in the past month or two and of course it was the best half who left.
Cash is king
Yes. Do you understand how unstable pre-IPO orgs are right now?
