I know the whole “what’s appropriate attire” has been asked a million times. No suits, polo shirt, button up shirt, slacks or jeans, no sweat pants, etc. Specifically I was thinking of going really casual, not bum. Anyone try this or interview someone at an Apple/Google style company before. Think, Sheldon from Big Bang theory. Graphic tee, long sleeve underneath. Jeans/slacks. Would that definitely get me a firm “no” on hire or would you think it’s nice this guy is casual, shows personality.
Dad was right. Always dress up. I interview.
You missed an option - "doesn't matter"
Graphics tees and a long sleeve shirt just look bad... I’ve worn a T-shirt and jeans to interviews at these and similar companies and got offers.
I was told to come to Apple in business casual.
Me too, and I felt really uncomfortable because interviewers were all very casual.
lol
I interview all the time and I rarely notice what a candidate is wearing unless it’s a particularly nice outfit (which gets no points for the interview, I just personally notice people with good style) or a particularly bummy one (you’re never graded on your outfit so it doesn’t matter but I do think “damn that’s the best foot you could put forward?”). When in doubt it can’t hurt to err on the polished side, whatever that means for you. Some of you people come to work like you rolled out of bed and it baffles me. Tech or not it’s still a professional workplace! Business casual is safe.
It’s all about collecting every subconscious detail that sways a positive opinion. Interviewing is rarely a rubric, but an overall feel or cumulative grade
Does a plaid shirt and dark jeans qualify?
Yeah that works! Wear some nice shoes. Done and done. Much better then a T-shirt of any kind (why someone would wear that to an interview of all places is beyond me). Plus dark jeans can look a bit dressier than light blue faded ones, for instance.
I usually go safe with a casual button up shirt untucked and dress pants and nice shoes. It goes well in pretty much any situation
Wear whatever you're comfortable wearing. Just make sure: 1. It's clean 2. It doesn't smell bad (see #1) 3. It is in relatively good condition (not falling apart)
Or, in a single rule...don't distract the interviewer with your clothes (or personal hygiene).
I usually wear: casual untucked shirt, slacks or dark denim, leather boots or shoes, and if weather is a bit colder, a sports jacket. You don't look like an extraterrestrial, but is classy and respectful of your interviewers.
As someone who interviews I give 0 f***s what you wear
As long as you wear something
A lot of you don’t care about clothes at Facebook.........and it 100% shows. 😂😬
