Looking to buy a new car. Super confused with everything on the internet. Not sure where to start. Is there any courses or book on car buying? Like how much budget to allocate for car? Buy sedan vs suv? Buy new vs used? Buy vs lease? Use truecar or costco or manually negotiate? Not sure how to navigate all of this. Can someone point me to right direction? Thanks!! Edit: Would like to drive a car which makes me feel good. Maybe a luxury car or a semi luxury car? Also my TC is 180k and has been working since 2 years and no college debt or any kind of debt.
Consumer reports is a good place to start. If you could elaborate on your financial constraints and how you envision using the vehicle we may be able to help. Some of the new/used , buy/lease , etc kinda depends on how you are going to use it.
Updated the post with required info.
Oh ok, yeah consumer reports will help you narrow down luxury cars via reliability and ownership costs. I personally like the Audi’s , they have some good performance metrics. New/Used - you can usually save quite a bit of depreciation by buying a 1 year old low mileage model. But with new it’s well new. It comes down to how much you feel you need something new vs. $$$ savings Buy/Lease - Depends on how much you drive and how quickly you see your self replacing the car. Personally I’ve always bought cars because I tend to drive way more miles than most lease programs allow. This really just comes down to how you think you will use it and then crunching the numbers. When it comes to negotiating the biggest thing that affects the Price is...patience. True car can give you he range to expect price wise. To get that really low number or lower requires patience. Negotiating the price when you come in, acting unsure and indecisive, and drawing out the process by going back and forth for a few days will get you a better price. Also buying the car outside of a major market will help you save money. This is especially the case with luxury/performance cars since people in rural areas aren’t typically interested in them so dealers are eager to get rid of them. Now imo, luxury cars can be a hassle sometimes especially if it’s your only car and your environment isn’t optimal. There’s a freedom that comes with owning a basic Honda Civic type car and not having to be worried about it getting dinged, crappy roads, theft, high costs, keeping it looking nice etc
Buying a Car for Dummies.
Get an Audi A4. Good blend of performance and tech
Find a “no hassle” dealer where youre not allowed to negotiate the price. Saves you a lot of time and effort and the costs end up being similar to what you’d negotiate at other dealerships.
Use costco auto program
F-150 Lariat or Platinum. Lots of luxury and good versitality between SUV and truck.
Hahaha. Trucks are for those who know they need it. This one has no clue about anything car related. Best choice for them is a civic/Corolla or an Audi A4 if they want something flashier
Haven’t seen such a dumb post in my life. You can’t decide what car to buy, what a moron.
Used car from Craigslist. Check auto vehicle report online to make sure single owner, no accidents. Take to auto mechanic to get checked. Negotiate. Buy.
How do you get paid $180k if you can’t figure out how to buy a car
Buying new car? Just lease it for 3 years. Warranty covers any potential problems. Buying used car? Check JD Powers reliability score. This works because the reliability score is rated on cars that’s 3 years old. 3 years is also the mark where cars depreciates half of their value.
It all depends on your budget and how much you would drive it and utilize it.
How to decide a budget? Like x percentage of my salary?
Yes, usually 32% of your pre-tax salary including bonus and stock vest for the past 12 months
