Change of career for 12+ YOE DBA - Canada

Hello, asking this for a friend. My friend has got 12+ YOE as a DBA and currently, works for a semi-govt body at Toronto, Canada. TC: 85 k He had worked for private sector, but did not like it coz of late night supports (DBAs generally have to be oncall at least 3 times a week). He would like to change his career to 1. Higher TC 2. Get into management and these seem legitimate; 1. Engineering manager 2. Product Management 3. Program Manager <in that realm of things> He does enjoy being a DBA, but as per his knowledge/linkedin salaries, he will not be getting any higher than 95k; thus, want to change the career path to explore managerial positions. strengths: 1. AWESOME people management skills 2. GREAT skills around DBA Work experience break down: 10+ years in India (ADP and Ford) 2 years in Toronto, Canada (Point Qlick care + Health department, Canada) questions: 1. Does it makes sense for a 12+ YOE DBA to change their career path. 2. Does he have to earn any extra skills/degree to get into Program/product manager stream? 3. Is is just a myth or reality that DBAs wont get paid well? If not, are their any companies out in Toronoto, Canada which pay good for a DBA? ideal situation: Becoming an engineering manager in a new age data based company who can pay well (good base + excellent stock). Any other suggestions are most welcome.
