Chase Preferred -> Sapphire upgrade worth it?

I have Chase Preferred and Chase Freedom. Freedom is nice with decent points and no annual fees, Preferred is not that great imo even though it has a $95 annual fee. Freedom gives more points for some purchases than Preferred does. Since I travel pretty frequently, should I just upgrade Preferred to Reserve? Reserve has pretty amazing deals and I think it’ll pay for itself. Or should I get a new Reserve and keep all 3 cards with Chase? And if I do upgrade, do I still get the same bonus points after the $4000 spend in the first 3 months? Or should I get Capital One Venture X? TC 230k

If you’ve had Preferred for > 4 years, downgrade to Freedom Unlimited and apply for a new Reserve to get the bonus points.

I already have a freedom unlimited. Can I still downgrade the existing preferred card (to maybe chase freedom flex)? And would you say that chase reserve is worth it (if you’re paying/know about it)?

I upgraded 6 or 7 years ago. It’s totally worth it. In addition to travel credit, I’ve gotten really good use out of Priority Pass, and the DoorDash/Lyft/Instacart memberships.

Priority pass does nothing now. Nobody accepts it and the lounges are turning into zoos because everyone has it

I think it depends on the lounge. In the past year, I’ve used it several times at SJC and the restaurant credit at SFO/other airports. We got stuck in Charlotte a few years ago. I have an Admiral’s Club membership but we used the Minute Suites PP credit to take a nap before heading back to the Admiral’s Club. I think Chase SR might be the only one that gives you restaurant credit. I know American Express doesn’t.

I also have Sapphire Preferred, but I decided to not upgrade to Reserve but went with a Capital One Venture X and I feel it is so worth it. All the perks similar to Reserve and annual fee is nearly 0. DM me if you need more info

I got amex platinum and I it suits my needs better. 200 hotel credit, 200 airline credit, 200 uber credit. 189 clear credit. I think you can get 125K points as sign up bonus right now which is one of the highest. Feel free to DM if you more info or referral.

Venture X would be better with the same benefits and less annual fee.

I would recommend Venture X as it has the same+ benefits with a lower annual fee. Watch this comparison: https://youtu.be/TQ8vzLa_Hk0

I have CSP but it misses a few things especially lounge access, i just got Venture X and its a perfect card for it. $395 fee but easy to offset ($300 travel credit, 10k miles annual anniversary so they technically pay u $5 to keep the card) 0. Unlimited Lounge access + 2 guests 1. Up to 4 Free authorized users (they can apply 0 above). 2. Tons of travel benefits, insurance, etc 3. 2x for everything so it's a catch all card for some lazy people or those who have no time to track. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to answer via DM too
