#software #swe I read many post discussing pay that’s much higher than mine. This inspired me to start looking for a different employer and seeking higher pay. I want to love from 100k base pay to 140k base pay. I had 3 technical interviews which I feel I did okay. They’re all dead end. In searching of what did I do wrong, and where I need to improve, what does it take to land a $140k position in software development? What are some better questions that I should be asking that can help me form a plan that I can follow to help me achieve that? Right now the idea of not able to breach into $140k range terrifies me. Thanks! TC $104k YOE: 7
location? remote could get you much higher if you're in lcol
I am in Austin TX. What is lcol? Thanks!
lcol - low cost of living which is not what Austin is anymore. But that's because the market has gotten decent for Austin so you should be able to get some good offers there
Which companies did you apply too?
I applied to Broadway Tech in Austin, Enfusion, and Goldman Sachs.
You can easily get 140k base pay in NYC easily. Many finance companies here to get in with less leetcode grind. Still I recommend you to grind leetcode for tech companies in the west.
leetcode; and apply to decent companies. 140 should be very easy to crack, just keep at it
Thank you so much! That’s very reassuring for me to hear. I will definitely grind leetcode.
Main tip for lc is focus on one category at a time, like strings, binary search, dfs, bfs. OR if you're interviewing for a company that is known to give out questions mostly from their lc list frequency such as Meta, do those.
That’s great advice thanks!
My company is currently hiring for our project. It is 100% remote and the pay would definitely your needs. There is no bonus or stock just straight salary and 401k match as far as compensation goes. Must have, must be able US citizen with the ability to get a security clearance. If you can meet that, then message me and I’ll work on getting you a referral.
Have you prepared for interviews? Studied leetcode/system design?
Thanks for the insight! I crammed shortly with leet code. I spent most of my time on reviewing oop, algorithm, and data structures. As I didn’t have formal education on those. My degree was in Aerospace. Leetcode and Hacker rank will be part of my daily routine now. Can System design be studied ad hoc like a day an article? Will udemy classes suffice? Will YouTube System design be good enough? Or did I totally missed the point? Thank you so much for responding!
There are multiple free github repos full of info for system design, lookup “system design primer” and “grokking system and object oriented design interview”
