I was solving so many coding interview questions everyday , I would write code at work and feel great about it. Now in my work I just paste the error code in chatgpt, and it fixes it for me. I had a python / pyspark script that was running for 10 mins to process the data, pasted in in chatgpt, and asked to optimize it.. now its taking 30 secs. I mean wtf I don't even have to search on stack overflow just get straight out of a bot.. I get even my sql queries straight if I just specify dB and table names and my requirements This is going crazy... I dont think tech jobs will exist in the numbers that we have now... Atleast 70 to 80% % headcount would be reduced in next 10 years , u need solid 10 devs instead of 100 devs . AI is gonna eat everything 🥶 Tc 180 #tech #chatgpt
What code did you manage to ask this thing to optimize successfully? I’ve played around with it and not noticed it able to do things like that.
it's way too inaccurate for that use case right now, think it's more likely to replace marketing and comms people first
This
If chatGPT is able to do your job, you are working on small scale, well understood types of problems, and you are doing glorified code searcher work. That’s okay starting out. We all start there. I have played with it, and been impressed with what it is capable of, but it’s no where able close to handling architectural level problems. How long until it can? I don’t know, but it doesn’t comprehend at that level yet. When it does I guess we’ll all just be asking the computer to design warp engines like on star trek, but there’s no guarantee it’ll ever get there. Take this as motivation to skill up. The market will need fewer code monkeys, as senior engineers who previously doled out work to juniors will be able to do more themselves, and get by with fewer entry level engineers. However the senior level roles are safe for now. One concern I have is if we reduce the number of junior engineers we need to the point that there is too small of a pool to develop the lead talent 10 years from now. I expected people who are good at leveraging this tech will do well.
Time to learn CSS. It’s so abstract you’ll never be out of a job.
It would be cool if you could write some Python code and have it rewrite it in Cython or C++ It would be like a high level to low level compiler
It can definitely already do that
You have a new tool. Use it to build bigger things. This will be a win for those who leverage it.
That is crazy! We’ve built a layer on top of code, but I still think there will be work in each company to enhance ChatGpt to their own reqs
