BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
There are thousands of crappy AI "assistant" startups. They've been around for years. google voice assistant, siri, Alexa, have also been around forever. And they suck, make no money, and no one uses them. The speculation is that cream of google revenue, Google search will be replaced. However that would never happen Google is the default search engine everywhere. Just like how boomers didn't stop using internet explorer until MSFT deleted it from their OS and forced them to use Microsoft edge, boomers will stick with Google search. Some don't even know they are using Google search, the browser on phone or desktop just sets it automatically. And adults/old people are the primary market for search. They click on the shitty ads that show up at the top of search results and pay those Google engineer salaries. They type google.com in the Google search bar Similar for Facebook. Old white women in midwest need a platform for sharing Thanksgiving photos and antivax content. They are the ones that click on the fat loss ads targeted to them by FB. the ones that actually spend money on the bootleg products in the ads on FB feed Nowhere but FB will they have a platform for sharing and viewing such desired content. Google and fb have been around decades and are too sticky. New crap like VR metaverse and Ai search are never going to be widely adopted by people already not very "into" tech. Their uses are not as necessary as existing social media or search. Only kids are interested in VR for gaming and socializing. Only kids care about ai search to cheat on homework and school. Kids don't make money for companies.
Kids define the future. You are already a dinosaur. Also post your TC
Welcome to the Jurassic park (background music)
Chatgpt definitely have a future. I think it is better than normal tutorials website
I‘m already using ChatGPT for things that I googled before. It’s not a 1:1 replacement but it has its strength. There are also going to be so many other use cases for ChatGPT that Google is actually not covering.
The benefit of targeting young adults/kids is to foster a user/customer base that will stay loyal thru their prime earning and spending years. Yes, these companies will still have users, but the future top companies are the ones capturing the millennial markets
nitpicking: Millennials are already old (I'm millennial). It's time for global youth (i.e. people born after 2000, someone who was born in 2000 is already 22 years old).
That is a very bold assertion. "People are willing to pay". Are they willing to? Or is it just you and select few tech professionals and students. How would you know if there is market interest if you don't have actual data
Not really may be you can and will pay but majority won’t heck people will happily still use torrent to get away from spending money !!
Sounds like people that thought blackberry will never die, my parents could never use a phone without a keypad.
Apple understands reality. Siri has been absolute trash compared to google assistant which is less chatable than chatGPT but guess which company is doing best YoY this year.
Lmao why compare apple vs google
To show what engineers value isnt what consumers value and what consumers value is what drives the destiny of companies
I ask most of my tech questions to chatgpt instead of Google search + stack overflow
Yeah, Sundar is clearly overreacting with the code red. Should just relax and wait to see what amounts to ChatGPT, right? Better yet, dismiss it like Yahoo did to Google when it first came onto the scene with the motto "search will never go anywhere."
You obviously have not tried chatgpt. But Google will catch up anyway.
I have used chatgpt. It gives obviously wrong answers a significant amount of the time, is not useful for 90% of queries, and doesn’t have much utility outside of content generation and entertainment. LLMs will be important in the future, and I’m sure that someone will build something useful on top of chatgpt, but it’s not replacing conventional web search.
You seem terrified dude, chatgpt problem solving capacity is miles above google search.
