I had an interview with Chewy yesterday. There was a medium LC question asked and I was successfully able to produce the solution for the question. The interviewer asked me to write the code and when I first ran my solution there were few errors because I was not importing correct namespaces. Hence I imported them and ran again and it compiled correctly. I received a call from recruiter today saying that I was not selected and reason they said was my code when ran had error and also stated the exact errors I got and said that the errors are main reason why they are passing on me. What I don’t understand is the code compiled after I imported the namespace which was immediate. He said at least I am providing you a feedback and will get back to me next week. I am very confused. Did I do anything wrong ? Is the expectation not to have an error when we run the code ? Does correcting the errors and compiling the code and producing output has no value ?
Da fuk? Do Chewy people know their website is shit? If they can’t hire folks who can solve problems it’ll remain shit. I’d say move on dude.
Wtf…why even bother compiling it. Should do like Google.
Similar exp move on buddy. You dodged a bullet. Why wld u wanna join such a company.
Well you can apply again. I dont think there is cool period like Amazon in case you are still interested in interviewing with them.
Congrats, you've successfully dodged a bullet. I've had people tell me they passed on candidates for all sorts of stupid reasons. Clearly you experienced this.
Was this a phone screen OP? I've never heard of anyone failing a candidate based on syntax / missing imports
Initial round with a developer
I'm guessing it was a very inexperienced interviewer. Unfortunately the recruiters don't know enough about coding to realize how unreasonable the reason given to pass on you was. At least it was only an initial round and you didn't waste 5 hours interviewing
You dodged a bullet 100%. Don’t waste your time!
What was the question asked?
OP, what's the question asked?

L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
This is really stupid. Part of software engineering is to be able to solve problems which is what you did.
