I recently interviewed for a manager role at Chewy. Director said/asked, "this is not an easy job, we work 50 to 60 hours a week here. I need to know that you're OK with that." What do you guys think? On one hand I appreciate the honesty. On the other hand... I think its content from a dilbert cartoon. #chewy #tech
I mean he was pretty straightforward. Up to you. Grind it out and see how you like it, or turn it down
I would prefer this kind of honesty . If you think the TC and experience is worth it then you can take it
If he’s telling you that then it’s worse than he’s letting on. Retail companies absolutely suck to work for WLB wise.
I interviewed there, they interviewed me twice once they rejected me (it was decent RSU were pretty low)and then the re interviewed me for a lower position, it was like speed dating but one of the worst interviews I ever had. None of them were interested in listening and I felt good not joining. Things are messy in Chewy even when I discussed with team, it was expected to run a marathon.
You will find the culture at Chewy very similar to Amazon. Even the interview I had was similar to Amazon interviews. That’s when I decided it’s not for me. I got an offer but rejected it as I had other promising leads.
You should’ve thanked them for transparency. I would ask back on what would be the trade off for someone to work for Chewy knowing that. Fast growth? Salary? Something else? And then make a decision based on that whether you want to sign up for it or not. I don’t like managers who are not forthright about culture for an employee to join and find out they were sold snake oil.
He/she probably didn’t want you to join the team and scared you with that info. Director might be on his/her way out lol
Are you the director?
No I’m not
Which team is this? I think it depends on the team/manager.
Sorry, a bit late to the game. Did you get the offer and how was the interview process? I’m currently interviewing with them.
Isn’t their TC bad too?
