Hello folks, I have 2 offers one from Chewy as manager to lead a small team of 2 people another is from Spotify as senior engineer. I am more interested in management role since always wanted to move from IC to Manager but Spotify team and perks looks too good to pass. Please help me decide YOE 13 Chewy Offer - $350k Heavy on equity and bonus Spotify Offer - $290k Cash heavy #chewy #spotify
Chewy is not a great company to work for. Not sure on Spotify.
Chewy is toxic AF - most managers hate it.
Isn't Chewy in Florida? Not sure I would be terribly interested in working there given all the latest political developments going on.
Cherry has 4 offices so it could be in Boston or Seattle or Minnesota too
Promo in Spot is tough
How feasible is IC to manager ?
It’s very possible if you can find a sponsor
Go to Spotify.
Chewy is bad for managers also ?
Especially for managers. Sitting in on performance calibrations will make you sick to your stomach. It’s all politics with so called “leaders” with very fragile egos.
Which location for Chewy? My preference would be spotify.
Layoffs changed the vibe, but I still love it here. Most colleagues are great and the culture is the healthiest I’ve ever witnessed.
Is chewy offer as a manager 3 or associate director?
I am a manager at Chewy - growth is very difficult. Most of the time directions change and you can't do good for yourself or for your team You will likely not learn anything but be burdened with petty politics. Take the Spotify offer. The positive of chewy is, it's mostly recession proof
That sounds concerning to me
I'd go to Chewy to get on the management train at least. Depends on your age though. If you can move from an engineer to manager at Spotify that'd be best. No idea how that process looks for Spotify specifically.
Moving to manage at Spotify might be possible but not before 2-3 years at-least.
Not true. Senior Engineer to Manager is a lateral move at Spotify (technically a down-level because you have to be Eng Mgr 1 for a year first, but they won’t cut your pay) and you could likely do an embed not long after if there are openings. There are just less openings in general right now.
