Chicago job market?

Moving to Chicago in a few months. My team at Google might not support a transfer to the Chicago office, since none of our teams sit there. Just curious how the job market is in Chicago for senior+ roles? I’m a senior TL on a Cloud team doing mostly full-stack work, 7 YOE. I would really like to stay at a somewhat comparable TC, but from what I’ve read so far my only options will be fintech (basically just Citadel). TC: 360

Chicago job market is only good if you are a C++ developer. Unfortunately companies here are a bit backwards in how they hire - they only value experience in a programming language rather than experience in software engineering in general. If you are a Java dev or other, you’ll have a bad time

Typescript and Golang :’)

While that is largely true, I believe FAANG engineers are an exception to that. There are a lot of non-C++ SWE roles in the trading firms in Chicago, and FAANG experience is pretty valued there.

Citadel is not really much of an option in Chicago anymore. Most teams are leaving Chicago, and the teams that are staying aren’t hiring much.
