So a friend of mine got fired from Google about two years ago He applied to a role at Netflix got pretty far and was expecting an offer Out of nowhere they send him a coke “we won’t be moving forward” email AFTER super promising final rounds I check in with the EA of the manager that would e been his manager at Netflix asking what went wrong (HS friends) and she says “she checked her chief network and feedback wasn’t good” I’m like wth is chief network so we look it up and it’s apparently an all women executives group We search LinkedIn and his old manager who fired him for “misogynistic behavior” (he talked over her in a virtual meeting, he’s Autistic but doesn’t tell anyone to avoid pity) two years ago is a chief member! Has anyone ever heard of Chief and is it likely that this place has a list of “do not hire” people?
I didn’t know that existed but it makes sense that people talk. He had to have done a lot more than just talk over someone if he was fired for it
That is all he’s willing to admit to😂 multiply that by 100 to get the real picture. If we got everyone fired for taking over women, 90% of tech workers would return to their mothers basements. It’s one of the most common shitty behaviors
He did it multiple times and still does it today even in our face to face conversation To be honest I don’t think it’s something he can help But because of the stigma attached to Autism especially in engineers he chooses not to mention it 🤷♀️ we all have advised against it but we aren’t the ones that have to walk in his shoes only he knows what it’s like to be considered the weird autistic engineer
If that is exactly what happened, sue Netflix and Google and compel the EA’s testimony and the managers testimony. Also compel previous manager’s testimony. I sure hope you have some documentation about this, because you are sitting on a multi million dollar settlement if this really happened. The guys previous manager can’t be badmouthing him, not based on an opinion. It looks like the opinion costed this guy his job. There is a reason HR does not share feedback with candidates.
This isn’t true at all…and it’s not even based on an opinion since she’s the one that got him fired for how he behaved
Doesn’t matter. Is this provable in a court of law with a jury of his peers without any doubt? No, right? Then it’s just an opinion. That’s slandering someone based on their opinion. He won’t even have to take it to court. Google and Netflix will fold like a pack of cards. I doubt this is true though. No one is stupid enough to say the rejection reason out loud, specially in situations like these
If he got fired bc of discrimination of autism he should have reported it sooner
If he didn’t disclose he was autistic then there was no discrimination because no one knew he was
Which is why it’s worth disclosing these kinds of things, especially if it’s something people might guess at and still discriminate against you on. If it’s not explicitly disclosed, it’s a lot harder to prove they knew and then discriminated then just “this is known and they discriminated”
Netflix is super diverse. This is unbelievably unsurprising, not sure what your friend expected.
I guess he expected not to still be punished for a mistake he made two years ago He’s a completely different person now. And while Netflix is super diverse it’s also…super racist and problematic as well. The way I see it he dodged a bullet considering managers send emails to entire departments when someone is let go…literally ruining their reputation for the smallest of things. He’ll be ok.
Not true. You both need to get better at research. Obviously if this was an actual case of pure innocence you have a primo case of libel on your hands. Why wasn’t that pursued?
I mean women have citywide don't-date list based entirely on hearsay and how they felt. I wouldn't be surprised if this system was also applied to careers, especially with the whole "women are treated unfairly at work" mentality with many high-level career women already. Women are the real embodiment of vengeance, not Batman.
“Victim Mentality” are you just dismissing misogyny altogether as a concept … there’s layers to this …
💀💀💀
Time for your friend to get paid by Google and/or his previous boss. Talking over someone is not “misogynistic behavior”, at best it’s poor communication skills. Add that they have an autism diagnosis should make it an easy case of libel/slander.
Obviously he did a lot more than just talk over someone if it got him fired. I’m sure everything he did is documented by Google. It’s not libel/slander if it’s the truth https://www.losangelesemployeelawyer.com/amp/defenses-to-defamation.html
It’s not obvious at all. If we’re making assumptions beyond what the OP stated, my assumption is that if your manager wants you gone, they can make it happen if they are half competent, and your manager’s real reason for your termination will probably not be the exact reason HR documents to actually get rid of you. The burden of proof is on the manager/Google and it’s pretty high. If the official reason they were fired is anything but “misogynistic behavior” backed up with strong documentation from HR, OP’s friends is getting paid. They might even get paid regardless in settlement just to make it go away.
Sucks to be a man in the current environment. Also sucks to be autistic in the current environment. Also sucks to be a women in the current environment. Also sucks to be trans in the current environment. Also sucks to be…do you see a pattern?
What a clownish comment. See what I did there?
🤡
Well offer to testify and sue them into the ground you can both retire with settlement like that.
This is discrimination to men actually. Talking over someone is misogynistic now?
I’m sure there was more to it than that. Were you there?
Even if it was misogynistic behavior this ganging up on men is unprofessional af. Involve Hr where you can. We talk about equality and then this discreet stuff makes me sick to the core.
Took you forever to get to the point. TLDR. “Friend fired for misogynistic behavior” is surprised that word gets around and no one wants the toxic liability. Surprised pikachu face
This, lol
You do realize that people can change or develop right? A lot of this is subjective & it could also be that the person in question did not know better at the time. What's the point in holding it against them for the rest of their lives? You're just ruining someone's life at that point.
