What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Here’s some update since the last post … The recruiter got back to me eventually and we’ll sync later this week. Glad it’s not a black hole after all. Thanks all for the comments / advice :) ================================ Interviewed with Chime couple weeks ago and am still upset with the process…. First step is a phone screen, once you pass, they will give you a take home assignment. I’ve had take home assignment in the past and honestly not a big fan of it cuz it’s time consuming. But for the most part, the take home assignment I did with other companies would allow you to present whatever you worked on during the on-site process so you can interact with the hiring team and talk about your work. With Chime though - they will let you submit the assignment online - like a real assignment I got at college. And I spent 6hrs on this crap. And submitted. Then two days later the recruiter came back and told me I was rejected. Thanks for the update. I was wondering if you can share with me some feedback since I spent a good amount of time for the assignment? Anything would be really appreciated. Of course. No response from the recruiter. Then I contacted the hiring manager’s EA (don’t know hiring manager’s email) with a very polite email and asked if he can kindly spare 10min with me to provide any comments. Whenever works for him. No response. I’m not upset with being rejected by Chime. Things happen and maybe my assignment didn’t meet their standard. But I am truly upset by the fact that they’ve showed very little respect on a candidate’s time. Like the near one day of work someone put in in the process just got flushed into the toilet. #data #dataanalytics @Chime @DataAnalytics
Do not encourage take home assignments, they are a bad practice that our industry needs to end. It is reasonable If you are asked to submit a write up based on a project you’ve done or perform some data analysis on some data they provide to you, so long as you are guaranteed to have a chance to discuss it during the on-site with an interviewer. Otherwise submitting an assignment to a black hole is a bad practice that should be retired for good. It discriminates against those who don’t have all weekend to spend on the assignment (care giver to kids or elderly) with no upside.
Arguably LeetCode is much worse. But THAs are a bad practice and waste of time. I agree.
6 hrs spent and no feedback? That kind of sucks.
Wow. This is super upsetting to hear! My interview process was nothing like what you described but I am going to bring this up with my recruiter. Take home assignment without being able to present or explain your thought process is garbage. I agree it should be banned
I was rejected for the same reason, OP. You are not alone Pretty bummed because I am 100% sure my approach was correct yet creative Which role was this anyway ?
Imho, Take home assignments > LeetCode (or similar), but provided they do give feedback, which they didn’t. Also, feedback does not necessarily have to be the reason for rejection. Reason could’ve been “we went with better candidates” (since giving too specific reasons might create legal risks).
Is there any precedence for someone suing based on feedback?
I'm not saying it's right, but I think part of the reason they don't give feedback is to avoid lawsuits. You can state ahead of time that you won't do it, and if they like you sometimes they'll let it slide. If you really want the particular role, it sucks but you'll have to do it and not expect anything in return if you're rejected.
This happened to me with Capital One. Spent about 12-14 hours on the take home and got rejected after the onsite. No feedback. Company policy shit email
My interview experience was amazing. I went from HR screen to offer in 10 days (analytics role not SWE though). Also told them I had competing offer so moved it along. Sorry to hear that that’s so lame :/
I would be surprised if any EM at Chime replies to u. Everyone is busy with meeting and projects. Most EMs I know are stressed af. They dont even talk to ICs on the team.
Fuck take home assignments they should be banned.
What is your preference then? I’d much rather spend a shit ton more time on a take home assignment than have to do anything with live coding.
I would much rather live code
