China Vs Rest of world

In tech industry going forward we all know it will be China vs Rest of the world; India is mostly out of question. I can clearly see American companies will have a strong hold against Indian companies. I have started to see execs in Microsoft thinking in China Vs Rest of the world model. #1Do you think US will still spearhead rest of the world? One of the key advantages US had was that it attracted ROW(Rest of world) talent. It still does today even with Trump, green cards except for India is still available to other countries in a reasonable time limit... #2What should China do to attract diverse talent? Do you think will China be able to rule the world tech with their existing strategy? How many of you would prefer to move to China or work in Chinese culture of 996? This photo preempted me to know your point of view

People think China is a reflection of the self-selected migrants that move to the US. Like any country, the population has a normal distribution of talent. It also has a deep state with an outsize weight on the economy. Let’s see how the next few decades plays out — without the catchup growth as tail winds.

What normal person is going to want to move to China and get a social credit score and be monitored by the government 24/7 and scarified freedoms they get in other parts of the world?

Microsoft /_-\ Nov 11, 2018

If there is money and opportunities in China, why not? We are being monitored by NSA and FBI anyway. You want total freedom? Move to Somalia.

American freedoms is vastly different from chinese life; they are not comparable

I think the biggest difference between China and US is innovation. Chinese government doesn’t allow American companies to enter China and Chinese have their own similar companies eg baidu, NIO, wechat etc etc. So million dollar question is will China be as innovative as the US in future? I think NO because biggest ingredient for being innovative is culture of freedom. Which they lack. What China is doing really well is polarizing the world and selling their products. And they mainly do this by building infrastructure in poorer countries. I read few days back that there will be two internets in future, but not sure Chinese will be as powerful.

24 million people in Shanghai... makes the Bay Area look quaint.

You forgot geopolitical issues. Japan, Taiwan, and S Korea won't be where they are today without supersized funding from world bank to seed the initial investments in automotive and semiconductor. China is big enough to seed their own, but if they over do it the whole market can crater and no one will make enough to self sustain. Just look at the solar panel marktet. It is not a matter of if they can (Huawei initially hired a lot of Indians to start too), but whether they want to.

China is a facade and time will prove it.
