Choosing McKinsey (Consulting) Office

Hi Blind, I'm having trouble choosing a McKinsey office. I am choosing between NYC, SF, Boston (school city), and Miami (home). Ideally want to work in tech long-term as a PM or in a strategy/BD role. I'm torn since compensation is the same everywhere (what I've heard) and not sure how staffing works. Will the client engagements and network in NY and SF give me a much better shot of exiting into tech long term? Does the COL saving of living at home or in Boston outweigh the smaller network/less relevant experience? Also worried about this decision since so many of my friends feel trapped in NY/SF 7-10 years down the line. Their TC only went up from 100k to 150-200k in that period and with kids, their quality of life is basically the same or worse off. I want a career but tbh would much rather not have to work as much 10 years down the line. Thanks! #consulting #location #office #mbb #mckinsey #mbb

I can tell you that McK NY is the best decision I’ve made.

Hey, I just got an offer to be a BA (experienced hire) at the NYC office. Do you know how much I can expect to make and if McK counts work exp outside of consulting when making offers?

If you intend to travel a lot, pick a LCOL like Cleveland OH, FL, or TX. Also look up offices & their partners. You can try to find someone you want to work with
