So according to these https://www.levels.fyi/?compare=LinkedIn,Google,Facebook&track=Software%20Engineer https://www.quora.com/Facebook-company/What-is-the-expectation-out-of-each-software-engineering-level-at-Facebook I feel as if I am very close between Staff / E5 and E6 I know that some companies just have you apply for a role and level you in the interviewing process. This is a question about companies that have job listings at specific levels. Is it better to apply for the level you know you will be able to get? Or apply for the higher level? Will they downlevel you or just reject you? Thanks

Depends on the HM. If they like you enough they maybe willing to hire you a level below the job description. No harm in applying. It’s hard to find quality candidates these days.
