I’m currently in a data science role, however my projects are not very heavy machine learning focused and mostly sql and some spark. In long run I’m not interested in being in a coding or too much technical role but rather I’m interested in business side. I love to understand how a specific thing impacts business side, what new things or features need to be added to grow users etc. In future I want to go to C-suite / upper management role. I have a engineering degree and MS. I keep getting reach outs for data science roles from FAANG and some other good tech companies but my current confusion is if I go for one of those roles-> get hired and become DS in new company, I guess I’ll be more in depth on technical track. Also my current thoughts of being on business side are sort of not motivating me to learn more data science related things on my own. What roles should I try to go for either in FAANG or non-FAANG. Also, any advice in general like should I consider MBA down the line ? Or should I continue in data science right now as it’s hot career and figure things out in few more years ? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks.
C-suite. Make sure you're able to spell where you want to end up.
Lol my bad thanks
DS on the Business side is possible too if you want to explore that - quite hectic, leads to C Suite. I was in tech before, but didn't enjoy it as always wanted to be on the business side. Paid very well in pure tech but took a conscious switch with dip to build business side. Love it - and getting closer to what I left (will take 2 more years I think) and can grow more now.
What was your role before the switch, and what did you transition to?
Thanks, for your thoughts, I agree, I’m particularly curious on how to achieve it even after joining FAANG
