Chronosphere recently hit unicorn status. Very strong team (lots of early Square/Uber employees). Paying top 99% of market. Reportedly great culture. Does anyone know much about their business model? Is the observability space that big? https://techcrunch.com/2021/10/07/chronosphere-raises-200m-at-a-1b-valuation-for-cloud-native-monitoring-adds-granular-distributed-tracing-to-its-dashboard/amp/ #Chronosphere #startup #unicorn
Damn I just told them I’m not interested because I couldn’t find them on blind
How is this better than CloudWatch?
Cloudwatch only really works in AWS. Better comparison would be AMP vs Chronosphere, however, Chronosphere is still far better for certain use cases, particularly when talking about scale and high cardinality. They charge based on persisted metrics vs ingest metrics so cost is more easily scaleable unlike other monitoring solutions. Plus, Chronosphere was built to handle massive scale and cardinality, providing a control plane layer to cut down MTTR as well as improve queries due to their advanced aggregation layer. Plus, they have the best current approach to traces imo. They take a 3-phases approach vs 3 pillars which is just based on data not outcomes. https://cloudonaut.io/unboxing-amazon-managed-service-for-prometheus-amp/ https://chronosphere.io/learn/prometheus-native-monitoring-performance-scale/ https://thenewstack.io/beyond-the-3-pillars-of-observability/
Def a company to watch. The engineers that left Square to work there are easily 10-100x engineers. I would consider going just to work with them.
Yup, people working there are all-star level. Average blinder (like me) has no chance.
When you say 99% top of pay what does an offer look like? Did a phone screen with them early last year but passed because I didn’t understand the product
Yeah exactly, no one cares about these articles. I want to know what salaries look like as well.
Similar to fanng ‘s levels and TC. I have talked to their recruiter
Engineers who formed that company built metrics system at Uber. Large scale item series data that is queriable in millisecond latency. Strong team and great company to watch out !
Great company that is disrupting the outdated monitoring and observability space. As people mentioned before, some of the top engineers are working there and they are doing some amazing things with observability. Although in the early stages for a company, the product is far along due to the level of engineering talent as well as all the work that was done developing the underlying tech while at Uber. Would highly recommend watching this company as it will be taking market share from both legacy players like Datadog as well as OSS favorites like Grafana Labs. Not sure what engineering pay is but equity will be worthwhile as well as the knowledge you’ll gain from working with some top tier engineers.
Interviewing now. Evidently engineering pay is quite good.
Got contacted by a third party recruiter. Glad I came to blind to check them out. Might just apply directly.
Careers page is broken 😀
Eek, sorry, please blame incompetent marketing (me) trying to do a website deploy during our launch. Working again: https://chronosphere.io/careers/
