Was affected by the layoffs on Monday. As was the normal with every other person impacted this week, the Senior Director read out his lines from a script like a well paid robot. That is of-course acceptable, and the way layoffs work, but let’s not forget we are humans and have true empathy, learn how to empathise. The new leaders within Cisco-IT are having team parties and get-togethers after their robotic, pseudo-emotional calls on Monday, not bothering to leave out reminders to those impacted. Where as I know of many many long-time leaders, regardless of being notified themselves, going out of their way to help those impacted, making calls for others and themselves. This shows empathy and exemplary leadership. And these good leaders, who lead by example have been asked to go!! What has Cisco come to?? All I can say is, the new CIO needs to think about the choices that have been made. Look at people too, not only roles. I wouldn’t get back in to the current Cisco IT even if I had the chance. But I would love to work under other Orgs within Cisco.
Sorry to hear about your layoff..Hoping you find something quickly within Cisco or may be something better is waiting for you outside the company. Every big company has Good and Bad leaders.Unfortunately, Empathy is not a skill which can be taught.
Probably this is a new innovation the CIO is drafting using the IT teams which are generally led by industry dinosaurs. Keep trying and all the best, I am sure you will find something better including the leaders.
