Cisco VS Juniper SDWAN Offer eval

Hey Everyone, > I am currently works in Cisco SD-WAN team as Consulting Engineer, with 5YOE and a total package including Performance and Stocks is $175K in Austin(Remote), I use Cisco Automated tools and some Ansible > I have an offer from Juniper SD-WAN team which is Commision based with total including variable Pay is $160K in Austin(Remote), where I will be working as Implementation Engineer/Systems Engineer and I will be using Python, OpenStack, Terraform, DevOps, Ansible, Salt, Chef and Puppet and other open source tool stack. And is a post-sales position I am a very technical person, I want to know would it be worth pursuing the Juniper offer just based on the Open Source tool stack learning curve and Virtual Networking? Or should I stay with Cisco with higher Pay? Need some recommendations for long run Cisco: $125K Base, $18,750 Performance, $35K Stocks = $178K Juniper: Commision based base 70%: $112K + 30%Commision $48K = $160K 5 YOE in Automation and Networking #cisco #juniper #paloaltonetworks #versanetworks #amazonaws #arista #networkengineer #fortinet #microsoft #telecom #tech #facebook #google

I would say, irrespective of company openstack is slowly moving way from customers . People are more interested in Kubernetes and other technologies...

How come your post sales postn comes with commission? Usually pre-sales roles are commision based. I would say your both pay are similar on year by year basis... considering those 35k stock are over the period of 4 years. Still i would not leave cisco just for learning new open source tools. You can learn all these on your own. Cisco is still better brand name than Juniper if you consider that aspect as well.

the 35k is in one year, i have stocks vesting since 2017 The new role is pretty good, i have made up my mind to move to the new company

Then why the fuck ask us to justify your bad decision?

McKinsey IMOsiris Jan 29, 2021

Why in the world you want to take a pay cut to join juniper?

Cisco cLdX60 OP Jan 29, 2021

i am not sure why do you think Juniper is not a good company Cisco is working on an Edge, not on cutting edge, just cisco’s portfolio is bigger

Charter zenmodeon Jan 29, 2021

I think open source is still has some way to go ... choose where you get to do more automation stuff

VMware hlgchk Jan 29, 2021

I wouldn’t choose either. You should jump to a cloud company like AWS etc. Cisco and Juniper both are legacy networking companies.

Cisco cLdX60 OP Jan 30, 2021

Although, cloud is enable by traditional networking, how else do you connect data centers? Ethernet cables right? Think about all the routers in AWS go down, guess which aws service will work?

VMware hlgchk Jan 30, 2021

I am also a networking guy but multi-cloud cloud networking is the way to go in the future. That was my point.

Consulting/systems engineer are commissioned pre-sales roles (includes very less deployment or implementation work). Are you talking about a PS consulting engineer role (non commissioned, post sales) at juniper? What grade or designation is offered by juniper?

Cisco cLdX60 OP Jan 30, 2021

So it is a post Sales Implementation engineer position (systems engineer ) in juniper Reason: Although 128technology was acquired by juniper, the company wants to keep the pay structure as commission role and that can(maybe) effect the salary incase team does not hit the target
