Companies that pay as much as meta
Hi all, What do you think about joining an enterprise as Cisco right now (compared to FANG)? Is it a good idea? I've heard a lot of bad news these last months (layoffs). In which sectors is Cisco still growing its market shares? (DC, DevOps, WAN) Which skills are the most important to have (software ? networking ? pure design? troubleshoot? security ?) They seem to be more and more interested in coding skills, is it a long-term vision or more a temporary buzzword. Which salary can I expect (>15years of experience)? Thanks to give me your opinion.
I literally yawned when I read the word Cisco
What location
does it matter? it's cisco 😂 everyone's living in 2021 and they're still operating like it's 1999
ofc it matters. cisco ceo wants employees to come back to the office.
No Cisco my friend - you might as well consider early retirement
Only if it’s Umbrella. Maybe 1 or 2 other places.
Cisco is making core routers and also the t virus?
Umbrella is the cloud security offering. It’s largely where the investment is happening (we’re hiring while other parts are laying off). It’s a cloud native environment where a lot of the devops people are.
Cisco is well positioned to benefit from the upcoming network refresh cycle. Work is interesting, depending on which team you join. The most growth will probably come from software, services, collaboration, and security. DC, enterprise, are shrinking or stagnant. Comp wise assuming you're hired at G12, 300-350k is not unreasonable in the bay area. If you are looking at the network infrastructure space, I would lean towards Arista (assuming they match comp.). They have better technology, growth opportunities and better work culture, although their portfolio is more limited (but growing).
Join and become a day trader. But also be prepared to get laid off
This is funny because it’s somewhat true lol
☝️Chuck should include this during next earnings call. 😂 pretty spot on, dude.
It all depends on how much time you would like to invest in your work and your expected TC. Cisco is a good place for WLB but TC is much lower than the FANG. I would be happy to work in Cisco if there’s no pressure financially.
Not true. I’m interviewing for Cisco as TC they’re offering is 60% higher than mine at Apple for SRE.
fang=fb amazon netflix google. sorry, apple!
Come if u want experience a nasty culture and where every friend is your worst enemy. Ppl are leaving enmasse. Choose wisely.
Serious comment here. I was considering Cisco a year ago and looked to the fact that they had topped (at #1) 'Best Companies to work for' list in multiple years. I've gotten a much different impression from Blind comments, and now realize it wouldn't have been the right fit, given the culture over-indexes to WLB vs challenging and growth-oriented work. How does a company with such a poor internal culture, top that list ?
We are as surprised as you are!!!
So this depends on what your priorities are. 1. With Cisco, depending on your role, especially in technical, there is a good chance many groups still follow the waterfall model of the 1990s. I doubt you will learn the latest and greatest. Maybe in some select groups you might. If you care about things like UX forget Cisco. 2. Do you want to work hard and stay challenged or do you want a 10 to 4pm job (note I'm not even saying 9 to 5)? Go to Cisco for the latter like another person above calls out "work life balance" 3. Cisco will NOT pay as much as FAANG. If you are coming from FAANG, be ready to take a base pay cut of about 20 to 30% and RSU value cut by as much as 50%. Again there are outliers are Cisco. But generally people go to Cisco when they want to hang it all up and get a pay check before retiring.
I disagree on the 10 to 4 PM job. Not where I work and even for my friends in other teams (mostly BUs) where it was easy 5 years ago. Maybe back in the day but nowadays its 7AM to 4 PM, 9-11 PM (to connect with coworkers in India).
Same here. Work my ass off all day lot of times starting at 8 and going on till 6 or 7
Blind’s strange A topic with 0 comments, 2 like is trending? How?
