I have the following offer from cisco. Grade 9, software engineer, remote position. Base 130k, 12% bonus, 0 rsus, 25k sign on. I've tried to negotiate and have gotten no where. I have an offer from a defense company for 200k+ and Cisco wouldn't budge at all. What can be expected for stock grants at cisco? The recruiter says they didn't have the budget for any rsus but can add them later and wasn't really clear on that. Just asking for other's experience on what they've seen for rsu grants as an employee. I asked for 160s/170s and they gave me that for the first year but go silent when I point out that's only the first year tc. Current tc 140k, 8 yoe
This barely beats your current TC. Unless you are really unhappy at current company, This makes no choice
Exactly, that's what I told the recruiter. I'm just trying to figure out if cisco gives equity often throughout the year or something. The recruiter kept telling me rsus can be given later but wasn't making much sense.
Sounds like made up BS for you to sign and him / her to get the fat check. But if they won't budge I guess your hands are tied. If I were you I'd walk away. It's a shame how all the interview effort can just go to waste because of not communicating things properly.
This is a really poor offer even for Cisco standards. RSUs are pretty common annually if you perform just about average. Do not accept their 'promises' because this is a BS offer. Base increment to 145k and min RSUs of 75k. Go with the other one if they don't come with the above.
Happen to have a general estimate for rsus given annually? I'm probably going to pass on this one and try again later. It was for the webex team, I'm just really surprised they wouldn't move at all. I presented my other offer for 228k and their response was adding on 10k to the sign on. My only guess is that I'm remote in a lcol city.
Oh, that probably might make sense. Where are you located? Where's the other offer from(location)? Cisco has a pay band unique to Bay Area and my numbers are for that. I still feel that a stock grant as 0 for a new employee is rarely heard of. You could see anything between 15k to 90k every year in general. Mostly, it falls on the median
Isn’t this a good offer considering you would be working remotely ?
This is not a SWE offer... there is no G9 swe
I am grade6 and my base is 125.5k
Bad offer... they r cheating you. I have known many people who got close to 140K and atleast 60-75k rsu’s at signing. Later they will say it all depends on ur performance and getting RSU’s and Hike every year is rare.
Expect 4 to 500 RS use the first two years and then they’ll come up with excuses after that where they give it to you every other or every third year. If the fence company is giving you $70,000 more a year, take it and run. 500 RS use is worth 20,000 and that’s discretionary. 70,000 per year is guaranteed. Not even close
Yeah why not take the defense offer - when you account for the yearly occurrences.
I’m a grade 10 with 130k base, so you did not get a terrible base for grade 9 starting position tbh. However if you have an offer for 200k in your sleeve too: take that if Cisco won’t negotiate you up higher. Follow the bacon.
Have you considered the working environment? In software development group, every one becomes absolute minority except Indian. Sometimes, TC is not the only factor to decide move
You should negotiate more stock grant
Tried, even presented a different offer I had. Was told no rsus for this role.
For remote position seems fair. Also doesn't seem like eng group, there is no g9 in engineering afaik
