Cisco salary negotiation, have offer from another company

I am working at Cisco full time at RTP location at G10 with TC around $120k base salary . I have 13 YoE. I have dual Ccie and other certifications. I have got an offer of $175k base salary from another company. But I love my job at Cisco and do not want to leave Cisco. However, I want to know that if I negotiate my salary with my manager at Cisco, how much can I expect ? What are the chances that Cisco would like to retain me ? (Given that I am top performer in my team) I am really thinking that I am being underpaid and that’s the reason I am looking for jobs outside.

This is very specific to your situation and don’t think others can answer this Does your manager think you are valuable to the team? Will you leaving cause months of backlog for the team? What are the average salaries in your level? If they are close to 120k, manager’s hands may be tied.

Yeah I know but wondering if someone else had a similar situation

They can't match that much. Have you consider the 15% bonus and RSU grants and evaluate your total comp?

Yea I have considered but that even the total compensation is less than the base salary at other company

If you want to stay, you can see how much Cisco will match. If you are high performer, Cisco may match 20%. Think that gets close after 15% bonus and RSU grants. If 20% bump isn't going to be good enough, and compensation is main goal, you'll just have to go external.

I will see what they offer

+1 on the previous comment. Cisco is unlikely to match your 175 offer at G10 (close to 50% hike). That’s deep into G11 territory. If you like your job at Cisco (and your manager) you can ask if he can match it. At 13 YOE you should’ve been at G11. A wild chance if you were in the pipeline for promo your manager might be able to pull something off. It all depends on how valued you are in the team. But know that if you go down this path you should be prepared to leave

What role are you in? Sometimes you gotta take a leap of faith and move.. 175K is a significant jump.. if you are unhappy you can always come back at a higher pay at cisco.. management dont have loyalties .. dont think your manager will not take a promotion because you work on his team

This. Leave on great terms with your manager and coworkers, work elsewhere for a year or two, and boomerang back to Cisco later, if you really want to.

Thanks guys !

I had negotiated with my team and stayed. Do not do that. They matched the difference for me in stock grant not base increase. Also, they will take you for granted once you negotiate and stay... Please move out. You can always join back Cisco at a higher pay after an year Or 2...I moved out of Cisco a week back and it was the best decision
