@Splunkers, what do you think? what changes do you expect? Good to join Splunk now? https://www.splunk.com/en_us/newsroom/press-releases/2023/cisco-to-acquire-splunk-to-help-make-organizations-more-secure-and-resilient-in-an-ai-powered-world.html?utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=social-media&linkId=236568665 TC: 🥜 @cisco @splunk #acquisition
Woah. Not surprised it happened, there were rumors about acquisition or private equity sale about 1.5 years back. When new CEO came in they switched around to heavily focusing on free cash flow.
RIP 🪦. Splunk wasn’t meeting profitability goals for the last 5+ years, so I suppose it’s not surprising. There was a prior acquisition attempt by Cisco in 2022 for $20 billion, but the board wanted more money, so $28 billion must have been okay with them. I’m also sad to hear it because Cisco is known for massive continuous layoffs.
Any idea why splunk isn’t profitable? It’s solving real problem and tool is good too. Not many competitors either..
We're profitable now but there was a ton of hiring, moonshot projects, and rear and vesters during the pandemic from what I've seen. Idk, haven't been here too long.
Wow this is a big acquisition
They already tried to buy us a year ago. Now they just gave more money
good to join splunk now? what happens to existing offers?
Don't think so. Cisco will fire a lot of splunkers after acquisition will be over
Bad fr both cisco and splunk except fr the existing share holders of splunk. Cisco is doomed and paid too much
Does not writing the o in for really save that much time
Will the stock price go up further? Should I hold on to the stock?
Bruh…. Sell , it will go another few % up when deal finally closes but if deal falls through it will go back down . Unless you are waiting for long term tax period or something
Does Plunk/Cusco continue to operate independently like Microsoft/LinkedIn or they will be completely merged including the employees and their pay bands?
Cisco leadership isn’t good for acquisitions. They have history of bad acquisitions. Not sure if this also fails like appD
What held Splunk back is ELT. How is Cisco's, acquisitions aside?
What exactly happened with AppDynamics acquisition?
I’ve been through a Cisco acquisition before and these things take a looong time to integrate. It’s going to take until late 2024 to close and then probably 2 more years to fully integrate. I’d expect Splunk to continue pretty autonomously for a while.
