I just got an internship offer for summer 2022 SWE for both companies. I plan on using this to return full time and skip that painful new grad recruiting process. Which one should I pick? It's Amazon (Vancouver, Canada) vs Cisco (Austin, Texas). The pay is similar although Amazon a bit higher and more room for growth. However, I do value WLB as I spend a lot of time making YouTube videos on the side, not sure if I'll have time to do that at Amazon since I heard WLB is sht. What do you think? *Edit: I could also choose Cisco San Jose, but I don't think the TC changes that much from Texas role from what I searched online. #software #engineering #swe #internship #offer #amazon #faang #cisco
I think the full time new grad salary for Amazon CAN is around 145kCAN=116KUSD. For Cisco texas, my new grad buddy got 110kUSD (but no stocks).
Take Cisco us n pivot in a year or two
Austin all the way
Would recommend coming to the US, it’s easier to get interviews with FAANGS here.
Easily Amazon. Better on your resume and you can still interview with US companies remotely without needing to live in the US.
Avoid amazon
If you go to Amazon, you will watch the time for your hobbies disappear before your eyes. What do I do now? Work, and then worry about work.
It's internship. Interns are treated very well at Amazon
I’ve seen my team go through 4 interns in the last year, just dumped some half thought out project or some tech debt on them to figure out for the summer, and not get a return offer. Poor kids work so hard to impress. But you’re right, Amazon over Cisco for the name on the resume alone.
Take Cisco, and switch within 1 year to FAANG
