What are the hours per week actually like at Citadel for a software engineer? EDIT: should be 40-49. would really appreciate any group recommendations
70+ for a software engineer??? Is that a fucking joke???
Not at citadel.
Are there any groups that have any wlb?
CEO.
don’t do it
Why do software engineers stay?
TC. They used to pay extremely well. Assuming they still do. I remember they hired some quant out of Eastern Europe and his TC was well into the 7 figure range.
I got an offer from citadel and I know a few people there. It’s definitely not 70+ hours/week. It’s more like 45-55 hours/week but tbh it’s not terrible since you can afford to live downtown close to the office so you have a really short commute.
For what it’s worth, interviewed for an AWS data infra position (not SWE position). The people were smart but had that sign of ‘I-can-get-fired-anytime’ written all over their face. Also heavily penalized if not working from Chicago. Did not move on as job sounded more devops in AWS.
I feel like most of these votes are from people who have heard rumors about citadel but none have actually worked there
Low Latency Engineering has good work-life balance. 45 hours a week seems typical here.
What’s TC is like?
For me TC 400k, 3.5 YOE, but I don't think it depends on team that much
Brutal culture. You need to be a hard core alpha male to enjoy the culture and succeed. If not you’ll be burned alive. 60 hrs plus
Is this from experience?
Lots of friends that worked in the Chicago office. It’s brutal. One stayed for 5 years and had NO LIFE. Hey all left as they started to have families. Super resume material if you can hack it for a couple of years. Me, would never even apply knowing the stories.
