Be very careful with this company. After almost 2 months of process and giving a verbal offer for a SWE role they said we can’t move forward because we are not hiring in Chicago anymore and only hiring in Miami and New York due to Citadel moving their offices to Miami. The recruiter said they just found out but regardless if that is true or not, it still sucks big time. This happened after getting the verbal offer and when the written offer was waiting approval at the CFO/COO/CEO level..Was initially told the delay was due to holidays. Highly unprofessional and dick move. How can such a big company send an “approved” verbal offer and then pull this kind of shit? Case of left hand not knowing the right hand or just BS because they went in another direction? Was given the usual response..we really like you and the team is bummed and tried to goto bat for you but upper management has decided and our hands are tied..gigantic waste of time .. Are there avenues to bill a company for a full day's work for the fake onsite?
If so…block can receive a similar invoice for similar behavior.
Verbal offers are not offers. It sucks, but they didn't pull any offer. The reason why everyone says a verbal offer is not an offer is that reqs get pulled all the time.
Yup understood. But you would think at this stage this wouldn’t happen. Why is an “approved” verbal offer given out if it hasn’t gone through all of the internal company approvals?
It has happened with google also. Nothing is final unless written and signed.
Did they offer you the position if you moved to Miami
Did you quit your job already??
Absolutely not. Didn’t give any kind of notice. You don’t do that until written offer or background check complete.
Sorry to hear about that - but from my experience Citadel offer is not guaranteed at all until CEO/COO approval. It isn’t unheard of for people to not pass that stage
All the offers have to be signed off by CEO. All new roles are being pushed outside Chicago. I know few teams whose new hires ran in to this issue. You can definitely negotiate a better offer. That being said NY is going to be the new hub and Chicago office is shrinking anyways.
The process is so strange. Why even send an “approved” (citadel internal recruiters word, not mine) verbal offer until all concerned parties have signed off on it?
I just had the same thing happen to me. Fuck man
Offer tc?
Sorry to hear that happened to you. You'll bounce back and go to an ever better company!
Thank you !
