Hello! Incoming Citsec SWE intern for this summer and I have a choice between Miami or NYC. As your return offer is usually to the same team and location, I was wondering which would be better *for doing serious, impactful work within the company?* I was planning NYC but I've heard from sources that the NYC offices are a bit disconnected from the real center of the company. I'm not concerned about factors like HCOL or taxes, I just want to go somewhere that maximizes my connection to and impact with the company. Chicago is not an option. #citadelsecurities
Miami to enjoy summer. You can move to NYC once you return. I suppose internal transfer is trivial and more positions available in NYC. In worse case you can find better FinTech in NYC.
I'm not trying to optimize for enjoyment but for professional growth - the same way Google Seattle < Google California
You sound like such a tryhard 😂 Enjoy slaving away for a billionaire while you get paid peanuts
Actually all the important stuff (e.g. ALL alpha teams) is in Miami.
NYC > Miami. But, Ken is in Miami. And my citadel friends are moving for career reasons. So it seems like Miami would be the better option as an intern imo.
Go where more functions are represented (or where majority of company’s leadership works from)
Citadel HQ is moving to Miami and they will inevitably push more and more people to work from there. They are building a brand new skyscraper. Ken moved there and wants Miami Brickell to be the new financial district of the US. Miamis real estate is more than 2x cheaper than NYC to buy, with ton of upside. Rents are cheaper but to a lesser extent. Price to rent ratio is 14x in Miami while it is well above 20x in NYC so good opportunity to buy if you move there and of course no state taxes and nice weather all year long. Much less crime and homeless too. You’ll need to learn how to say “hola” to your Uber driver though 😆
Brah it’s just an internship
How is TC in Miami? I guess lower than nyc? Also taking into account that you are you and want to maximize impact, learning etc looks to me that nyc is a better option atm.
That’s not how TC works at CitSec.
If you are going to stay in Citadel, Miami. If you want career options, NYC. Also life is more fun in NYC. Although one cannot deny the fun of being close to space launches.
What's the deal with the Chicago office? Will it stay? Are they downsizing it?
It is being downsized heavily
The deciding factor should be the team you want to join if that’s not already decided. The systematic and infra teams are in Miami, whereas the trader driven ones are in NYC. TC growth is a lot higher if you pivot to be a QD/QR for the former
New York. No questions asked.
Why? Is the company not headquartered in Florida?
Amazon doesnt know what he’s talking about.. id just not attention to what anyone from amazon says
