Citi recruiter called for a director role in tech at HCOL. When I asked about salary she said 230k base + 50k bonus. Honestly, initially I couldn’t believe what I heard and later she explained me the bands. How these big banks attract talent? I understand market is bad now but still the gap is just too big which really baffled me.
Banking director is not that high up
This role was to manage > 50 engineers. That’s significant to me.
Wow that pay is horrible then
That seems to be what i heard too, i know directors of tech at companies like At&t and verizon are on same lines … around 300-350 TC
Banks do 120k for swe. That seems about right for a director
Even lots of tech pays that low. I wanted to work at a startup but couldn’t justify a 75% pay cut so went to Citadel for a 33% bump
Right, but this position was pretty Senior based on what was described to me.
Right, so were the positions I was looking at.

Question about women in their 30’s?
That’s what people outside of tech get paid. When I first heard tech salaries I fell out of my chair. The 500-600k salaries for late 20 somethings without extraordinary achievement just baffled me. Also how many YOE IS this director role looking for?
Minimum 12 . Bear in mind this role is to manage an org of > 50 engineers. To me that’s significant.
This is cap. Nobody is getting paid 600k in their late 20s unless they are extremely talented.
