Equifax fires remote employees with multiple jobs

Must read Equifax used their own data from “The Work Number” and fired employees that had multiple full time jobs. They are going to make a product to make it easy for other employees to find out the same. Truly dystopian times incoming. What do you think? Do they check if you are employed or getting paid ?

Meta SHbk80 OP Oct 14, 2022

Article says they used the timing of the paychecks - and then interviewed the suspected employees before firing them

Some get around by contracting through their own LLC

Related: similar thing happened in India. Govt pension fund department reported employees to their employers as the agency was being deposited funds for the same person from multiple sources. Sucks that they are preventing us from doing unethical stuff 😒

I think the scary thing is that Equifax has all of this data and that they could use it without the employee’s consent. Usually you have to consent to release paycheck details data

How does the government pension fund department come into picture ?

I think they will get sued or something.. pretty sure that’s breach of privacy.. like.. yeah they have my data but not every Tom dick and harry get to see my data.. and I am sure that working at equifax I am not signing away access to my personal info away to them. I see a class action lawsuit coming. Congrats to people who got fired and becoming millionaires

Unfortunately equifax is slimy - I’m pretty sure the employment agreements they had would’ve permitted this kind of usage. Else they wouldn’t be divulging details. I think the employees are f-ed

Employees broke their employment agreement and deserve to be terminated for cause

I’m sure one of the more progressive states (like CA) will make this illegal and others will probably follow suit. Then just make sure one of your jobs is in those states and you’re probably good. I do think that companies should be able to fire you for working two jobs if they find out on their own because it’s impacting your performance or availability. But if you’re performing at an acceptable level and it’s not interfering, then it’s not really any of their business and what they don’t know isn’t hurting them.

Generally companies do state that you need their approval to hold another job regardless of the field it is in. They want to ensure that it is not competing etc. These specific employees were abusing WFH and had 2 full time jobs. Basically getting paid for 80 hrs and working maybe 40. It is this crowd that will ruin WFH for all of us

Yeah if you sign a non-compete or agreement to not work for someone else then you should get fired if you break that agreement. The only thing I have an issue with is companies using a credit bureau to find out. It’s too Corporate Big Brother for my tastes.

Fuck - all we need is a small number of people to fuck it up for everyone.

You can request a freeze on your record so other employers can’t access it. I’ll also note much of their data is incorrect. They listed jobs I never worked, salaries that were completely incorrect. I requested to remove stuff and they didn’t push back either. Before I realized that I did have one employee ask me about overlap. I just said I signed an offer but had a much later start date, and they bought it. So there’s a few ways around it.
