Clause in the Mastercard offer

Received an offer from Mastercard for a Senior Software engineer position. The offer letter mentions that the first 6 months will be an "observation period". I'm scared to accept the offer due to this. Can someone from Mastercard tell if this is a red flag? Or is this common in the offers from Mastercard? #tech #mastercard #offer

Red flag - you’re first on the chopping block in layoff

6 month probation period is common. You should be fine as long as you do your best.

Lot of companies have that. It’s fine don’t worry too much about it

JPMorgan Chase Liogap May 27, 2022

Isn’t this pretty common? It’s a probation period.

Tell them you will join after 6 months

Assuming you are in the US, I wonder why they need that since most employment is "at will" anyway. Unless it limits you access to benefits of some sort....

It does not limit you to anything

This is no big deal. It applies to everyone and doesn’t matter if your entry level or an exec. It just means if you suck really badly, they can release you in the first six months.

Capital Insurance Group uwjames Jun 10, 2022

What if you just kind-of suck?
