Hi, I have a general question related to the way we write code in an interview. If my interviewer is asking me to code the solution on a tool like Google Docs or MS Word, can I customize the Font style, Font size, page width (A4, A3)? I'm asking this because I'm planning to use a Font style which is not Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, or any professional font styles. I'm planning to use the Font style from JetBrains IDEs - JetBrains Mono (available to install from Google Docs Fonts collection). I feel as if I'm coding in an IDE itself. It is very friendly for me. I was struggling with the pace and accuracy with regular fonts (Arial, Georgia, etc.,.). But after I found this, I've made very few errors. Will the interviewer be Okay with this? Or will this be seen as decreasing the difficulty of the interview process or make a negative impression? Page dimensions can be increased to make code fit in a single line. Very rarely, there's a chance that I might have to write a very big line of code. Please let me know. Thank you for taking your time into looking into this. Have a lovely day. #faang #google #onsite #interviews #softwareengineer #machinelearningengineer
It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
lol just write code bro
Pick a font that is monospace, any monospace font will work. I think it will also be easier for the interviewer to read your code
Yes, I'm currently using JetBrains Mono - this is a Monospace font used in PyCharm/IntelliJ Idea. Other monospaced fonts are Consolas and Courier New.
Is it common to do interviews on MS word or docs?? It seems laughable to me, and I’ve never seen it
Pretty much all FAANG companies do it. Amazon has their own version instead of Google Docs where you can’t compile the code.
Live code is absolutely terrible and I'm embarrassed to interview people with it.
Not these days. At least not Amazon / Google / Meta / Apple. Everybody is using a code friendly tool. I don't say they are using online editors like coderpad, but they are using code friendly tools
