My 7th grader son has over 2 years of coding experience. He has completed basic coding course camp (Scratch, HTML, Python, Javascript, Unity, CSS) and has experience in Roblox lua. He's recently dived a bit deeper in Python in YouTube (Programming with Mosh, Bro Code). I'm having start intermediate level next. I've been encouraged as it seems like he is be able to comprehend and figure out how to get through challenges independently without needing to ask a more experienced programmer for help. He doesn't know his career direction yet but knows that he is comfortable with a desk job and not interested in the trades. Understanding that 1) Popularity of programming languages evolve 2) Megatrend of AI is there a recommended coding roadmap for teens that will help with college admissions and future career? And any recommended YouTube channels to support this roadmap? Edit: My son plays sports, has a healthy social life, etc. so hoping for more constructive feedback. Lol.
I hope the kid actually enjoys all of that.. If not, please don't deny him of his childhood
Have him play outside in his spare time
Have you considered enrolling him into Kota factory? 10 yr old is already too old to train for the armies 😅 jk
Jesus Christ. Just let him be a kid.
both of you need to touch grass
Let him learn more math.
My son plays sports, has a healthy social life, etc. Appreciate the concern. On the "field will be saturated" comment, yah.. I understand that could be the case. But could having knowledge of coding be foundational for other related fields?
Math is the foundation you're looking for. It is the limiting factor to how far your kid can go in coding competitions. I was a very good programmer in school but eventually fell behind in college due to weak math. My highschool friend who was a math genius is now killing it as a quant dev making millions. But the key is to develop a life long passion for learning, without it we all reach our limit or even burn out at some point.
ABC-CEO , thank you.. appreciate your perspective.
