Coinbase is offering a package for employees who want to exit after the release of a blog post from its CEO outlining why the crypto exchange operator will take an apolitical mission. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, who penned the controversial blog outlining why the exchange will mainly focus on its crypto mission versus social activism, said that it would provide employees with a package to leave the firm if they don't "feel comfortable with the new direction," according to an internal company email reviewed by The Block. This is what a strong leader does! Stay on mission or GTFO. Leave politics to politicians! https://www.theblockcrypto.com/post/79247/coinbase-offers-exit-package-for-employees-not-comfortable-with-its-mission
Darn I shoulda joined a month ago, I would be able to take severance now
Hiring? Tired of wokeness and gender / identity politics. I wanna write code and get paid and never watch the news again.
Tbh, I'd look for outside employment just to get that 7 year options + 4 months of severance. It'll be icing on the cake. Given they pay around 180k for senior SWEs it'll be give or take 45k! Pretty good IMO!
CEO is a dumbass. First anyone who is planning to leave for other reasons will just take severance and get those benefits. Second spending all of this time discussing not talking about politics is a distraction on their mission if they really care. Just stfu and get back to work already.
#1 troll
Yep. They will end up with the least diverse company and no users if they continue this route
I applied after reading the blog post lol. All the jobs are listed as fully remote. I’d work there from Puerto Rico, pay no income tax, and not get told I can’t say brown bag lunch because it’s triggering.
Does anyone know what triggered this announcement?
Triggered the key word here
There have been multiple rounds of heated discussions between employees and leadership team since George Floyd incident. Many are not happy with the leadership’s reaction to societal matters.
What does the leadership team look like at Coinbase?
I too look to Coinbase to solve the issue of race relations in the United States...
Good move to quickly resolve differences in view. I would support this too
Pretty awful response tbh. Tech companies continually [unintentionally] destroy communities via gentrification. They have a moral obligation to work to fix that. But good on CB for giving employees with ethics a decent out. If anyone wants a job at Affirm (which has its own 503c arm) hit me up for a referral!
Although coinbase is remote now. So they solved that problem too.
That’s a good lol. Almost everyone is going to return to the proximity to the office when there is a vaccine. You may not need to go into the office everyday but you’ll go in for creative sessions. Also if you’re a new grad or junior developer you’ll be at a significant disadvantage of getting promotions if you’re not putting in face time. Everyone knows that promotions is still an office politics game not a pure meritocracy that it should be.
Finally a sensible employer
