Coinbase is setting up it's office in India. I have recieved an offer from them. Comp wise it's an extremely good offer. But it's difficult for me figure out the work culture there as they have probably hired 4-5 people across India. I haven't read too many positive comments in terms of work culture from US folks. I also have an offer from a series A startup. They are not paying that much but still good. Does it make sense to join coinbase over the startup? I want to optimize on learning but coinbase is throwing shit ton of money. YOE: 4 Coinbase offer: 70lakhs INR (40 base+ 2 performance bonus + rest is equity vesting in one year) Startup offer: 50lakhs INR (45 base + 5 lakhs esop vesting in 4 yrs)
Sorry but couldn't resist asking one off topic question. Old IIMs or IITs?
IIT
Hey OP. How was the interview process?
Typical algo DS and system design
What was in machine coding rounds ? Or pair progrmming round???
Congratulations OP. How many days they took to inform you about the selection after final round?
One or two days
Congratulations . Go with coinbase . R they fully remote ?
Probably not related but considering your current company and yoe, isn't your tc already above 50? Startup offer is not enough in my opinion.
How much can an early stage startup offer at 4yoe?
From what I have seen, For a series A, depends on the funding, if its 10-20 mil then can give more base as well as esops. Usually even low experience folks get esops worth 20 lakh in few startups. If less than 10 mil then ain't worth it. If more than 25 mil funding, offer can be much better.
How was your interview experience op? Especially pair programming rounds
Experience in what sense?
What are the levels offered in Coinbase? Is senior engineer sde 2 there?
5+ YOE is Senior
They start from ic3 (entry level) and then go upto ic6(manager)
Is that 28 LPA stocks every year for 4 years ? Or just for first year ?
First year
So post first year TC drops to 42 LPA ?
Dude did you negotiate on stocks?
Coinbase doesn't negotiate. They have fixed offer
Are you planning to join them? They could be notorious. I am also in the loop but having doubts.

Culture is probably similar to Amazon, based on the posts at blind. It’s not a easy place to rest and vest, they’ll squeeze every single penny out of you, just like Amazon. Also, there’s a 10% pip quota introduced from Mar’21 cycle, just like Amazon. Regarding Stocks, if bitcoin picks up then it’ll 2-3X in couple of year, Just like Amazon
One more thing to keep in mind, their india operations are just starting and it’s very very early here. They don’t have Engineering leaders here yet, they just have a VP of Engg and they have offered a bunch of Engineers (which they probably overhired) Now, most guys won’t join Coinbase as G/U can easily beat this TC for 3-5years (OCI/MS/Amazon can stretch as well). Also, Crypto is a very grey Area in India, so most engineers will pass. So, yeah, that’s my analysis. Take a judicious call
I am not worried that much about comp. What I am looking for is learning. Startups definitely give learning. But would a big company starting from scratch in some other location give that much in terms of learning?
