Hey folks, I have an interview with Coinbase soon and I am a Java person. There is an API cum Json parsing question for the interview and the recruiter mentioned I could use hacker rank or IDE for it. But, for Java, I cannot use Hackenrack because I need external libraries for json parsing. Question is, Can I continue to use hacker rank for the question - ie omit json parsing, and instead hardcode inputs? Or should I use the IDE because my lang is java I think the main thing I want to know is, does coinbase deduct points for using hackerrank and not doing json parsing?
Why not just pick up python? Its not that hard to learn
Interview is early next week. Too hard to get fluency in such a short time
1 tip i have for you as someone who had gone through coinbase interview and got an offer from them… java is not a great choice because their interviews seem to be based on the speed of your coding… and java verbosity will hinder you a lot…
Cum
Yeah it has different meanings..😶
If json parsing is a part of the question then you cannot skip the parsing and expect to clear the interview. It is there for a reason. Why do you think it will take too much time parsing a json in java?
Because you need to build the object structure as classes. Then initialize the parsers and each one is a unique flavor of PITA that may or may not work out of the box depending on the data coming in. For example, dates are finicky, especially when you’re racing against the clock
Wow so complicated… python json parsing is straightforward to a dictionary
Doesn't Hackkerank not allowing external api calls? You gonna have to use ur IDE anw
How did your interview go?
Went well. Got the offer and I wrote in Java 🤘
@Amazon, what questions did they ask you? Can I DM?
Hey OP, can I DM you? I have an upcoming interview.
Yeah sure
Hey OP, what team did you join?
Not joining. Taking up another offer.
Which conpany you are going to?
Did you actually get an offer from coinbase?
Yeah
@OP how were you able to get around parsing json in java?

You can use your own IDE and just share your screen. Hackerrank isn’t required. Just after you’re done, send the code in hackerrank so they have it for reference.
Thanks for your response. Tagentially, do you know if json parsing has a big weightage in terms of evaluation? Is it a deal breaker - if one doesn't have time to do the parsing? I ask this especially because it takes a lot of time to finish basic code plus tests in Java. Json parsing is too much to expect from java folks imo.
If you use Java, make sure to impress. Otherwise just use an easier language.
