Need help and wanted to hear thoughts from others on the two companies. This will be my last internship, and Uber is a return intern offer bc I interned there last summer. Both internships pay the same over the summer. Optimizing for working there as a full-time employee, and I care about WLB, culture, TC, and resume value. This is my pros list from what I’ve read online - Pros for Coinbase: Higher entry TC, remote work Pros for Uber: Higher TC after promotion?, better WLB? Not too sure about these What would you guys pick? Anyone who worked at either that can speak to their overall experience/WLB? TC: 0 YOE: 0 (I’m still in college)
Uber, no question.
Even tho coinbase is remote and has 25k higher entry lvl TC?
Yes. It’s coinbase
Get return offer from uber. Market is hell for new grads tbh
I’m pretty confident I’ll get a return offer from both companies, just wondering which one would be a better experience as a full time engineer.
Uber no doubt. I ain't in faang but very prestigious.
Uber for sure
Uber for sure
Thanks for the response. Coinbase has 200k entry TC while Uber is 174k, so I was kinda leaning towards coinbase, also because it’s remote. After entry level, I think Uber pays more according to levels.fyi but the data points are so scattered it’s hard to be sure. Can you give more details about why Uber?
Oh humm idk then. Gotta say that tc is pretty low for Uber.
Coinbase, new exp and they’re picking up again. I know a recruiter there and demand just got increased heavily
Remote full time as a new grad isn’t that great. You learn a lot being in the office (how to interact with people, build relationships, being out in society, etc).
True, but Coinbase has offices that you can go to whenever you want, so I was planning on living near one in a city I preferred, rather than just Bay Area for Uber.
Here's the lesson I've learned as remote new grad few years ago: put on a mask. never disagree with your manager or peers. personify as a carpet so you can prepare to be walked all over. Corporate culture is trash.
If you’re really considering Coinbase, read that one statement Coinbase put out 2 months ago about their updated hiring practices - make sure that sounds like an environment you’d like to work in
Could you please link it or lmk where to find it?
Uber for sure. Coinbase is still a risky bet, Uber much more stable, well rounded and proven talent and eng culture, better WLB on average, great growth/promo opportunities. Dont worry about the 25k initial difference, thats peanuts compared to the other factors, and the comp you will earn over the next few years at either place
Coinbase. It's a turning point for crypto with institutional adoption this year. The Bitcoin ETF should be approved in the next day or two and we're likely headed into the next bull run. You'll experience the highest highs and the lowest lows, but when you're young you should take risks which can lead to outsized rewards. For example, my tc was nearly 500k last year as an IC4 with the RSUs + ESPP.
Thanks for the response. How’s the WLB there? I’ve heard bad things about it
Not bad tbh, but team dependent. DM me
Coinbase because you already worked at Uber, so you can diversify your experience
That’s what I was thinking but Uber pays more TC after SWE 2 level, and seems like a more well respected company.
I’d only say that’s true if it wasn’t his last internship. Now’s not the time to optimize for diversity of experience, it’s time to maximize likelihood of a return offer. Given op has interned at Uber and probably has a decent understanding of how stuff gets done here, it’ll be much easier to show impact during their internship and thus bag the return
