Google has paused PERM until 2025. I am on h1b which expires in Oct 2026. I cant trust Google for visa anymore 1. Has any big companies successfully resumed filing for greencard? Meta, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Netflix, Salesforce? 2. Here are some paths I am thinking * File for either niw or eb1a which are for extraordinary people. I got no phd, no research, no patents, no media coverage. Just a cmu undergraduate scrub with 5yoe. But I will try * Founding my startup and get into YC. There is this idea I have been thinking and testing. Somehow if I go to YC, every visa issue will be resolved * Getting married to an American. I already have a gf who is not American. I dont want to find someone else. I am not going this route but just putting it for reference for others * Going masters --> opt -> h1b -> greencard all over again. Expecting another 10 years this way. I prob wont go this route either because tuition costs so much + 2 years down the drain * Stay in Google and you will eventually get it around 2028 - 2030. This is under the assumption that I am willing to relocate to Canada for a couple years, not get laid off for the next 5 years, betting that Google will be successful in the future, willing to wait another 5-7years. Seems risky at this point. I am leaning towards founding my own startup and raising millions of dollars as a realistic path (i know right?) What can I do? What will you be doing?
Did Google officially announce that they are pausing PERM until 2025?
How does getting into YC solve it? Can you switch to an O-1 then?
Many international founders so maybe? But this is not sure. Just winging it
Yeah. I'm in a similar boat. Perm is in progress, but co-founded a startup. Looking for the best way to not lose status. Lawyers recently suggested switching to 0-1 or EB-1 from the new co. Subject to funding of course.
Why 2025? Are they expecting continual wave of layoffs?
Google is opening its second largest office in Hyderabad. Just move there and be happy instead of going around in circles like this.
Depends on how badly you want to be in North America. What I have been suggesting to folks who come to me for advice is to relocate to Canada now and start the PR process there. Also if you are interested in getting into leadership roles, work and get to manager level there in Canada. Immigration to US will become a realistic goal then. If Canada treats you well in the meantime, you can say goodbye to USA.. If you believe your home country is a rocketship and you would like a seat even in a toilet in that ship, move back đ
Whatâs your girlfriendsâ status? H4 EAD can be a route.
Msft has resumed perm BUT another layoff could pause it. You can join a bank or some financial institution that has not paused it but it will likely be a pay cut and if you run out of h1b time they may not support relocation. Going to get a masters has issues as you wonât be eligible for h1b lottery. Need to depart us for 365 days. Is your gf i140 approved? Marriage and cross country is a thing So itâs either ride it out with Google or take a risk and join a new employer. Dm if you want I am in similar situation.
Your H1B expires Oct 2026 even after extension?
Have you explored EB2 NIW option ? It will atleast get your i140 approved
USC but Amazon has also paused PERM until 2025 or more... good luck
Oh shit. Thanks for the input! Good luck to you
Amazon has paused!
