6 months ago I cancelled my Comcast account, while on the phone I made sure I didn't owe more money. For a couple of months they kept billing me, I have contacted and called them 3 times and each time it ended with them acknowledging a mistake on their side and that they will take care of it. No I received a message from a collection company about this bill. What can I do? Even Comcast on the phone acknowledged I didn't owe anything and now it's out. Is there anything I can do for it to end and for my credit score not to be impacted?
They really want you back
Wtf, it should just be you stop paying they turn the service off. Why did all these morons with business degrees have to make it all so difficult. Get it in writing next time and don't consider it done until you do.
I didn't really consider it done, but what can I do? I disconnected auto pay, after that I have no control over their billing system, if they keep charging me there isn't much I can do. But yeah maybe I should have called them every day until they took care of it.
Same thing happened to me. I cancelled and was all paid up. I asked for an email confirmation. Never got it. Next month they called me, went to voicemail with them claiming I had another bill. Typical scummy corporation with poorly trained customer service reps
What did you end up doing?
Lmao same. I hate that company so much. I called them again, started recording, and asked them to confirm on the record that our business was concluded and I did not owe them anything, and to get the rep's employee ID. Didn't end up needing the recording fortunately
So how did you manage to resolve it? Did Comcast resolve it after a Nth call? How did you make it go away with the collection agency?
I think they had a secret last payment not listed on my account on the website that I could do over the phone. They claim they didn't actually send it to collections, and the collections company didn't reach out again. Not sure if that's true and it was just a threatening letter or if they wiped it.
Dispute the charge with the collection agency. Ask for documentation proving that you owe the money.
Write a cease and desist letter to collection company and say the charge is incorrect and ask them for proof. Also,if you have any documentation of cancellation send it to them. Collection companies are required to provide proof when requested (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act). Also when you dispute a charge they are required to take it out from your credit report until they validate it with the original company. Typically it’ll show back up again on your credit report in 30 days… if it is a valid charge… I disputed an incorrect billing a while back and was able to get it off the credit report… All the best!

Lasik cost
As fucked up as this is, you either pay or lawyer up and fight. Unfortunately not much you can do. Or once it goes to collection, then you pay. That way, Comcast gets Pennies on a dollar and collection will ask you to pay before reporting anything on your credit
Would small claims court work instead of getting an expensive lawyer?
Probably. But companies now have lawyers on hourly billing in small courts to defend them. Imagine, you don’t succeed there, then it becomes a bigger issue. Does the OP have clear written evidence to show in small claims court? It appears that everything was done over the phone. A professional lawyer would simply send a letter of discovery to Comcast and they will shut up and settle everything write away
