The article doesn't mention any country or even imply like you did in the post. Big companies can do whatever they want, that's why they pay big bucks. Paying well doesn't mean they care or that you are important. It's just powerplay and supply/demand. When WLB is good, culture is great, you may not get good pay. That's the reason they pay well. So stop complaining when you knew what you were getting into. There have been stories of PIP since years.
Not true at all .... If that's the rulebook companies are playing by then they won't be popular for long (historically true as well) ... And Amazon doesn't even pay well for most job families ( Amazon on pulse has the same compensation rating as MSFT that is C - MSFT is known for peanut tc) Currently work in non faang ... I get paid more than Amazon and have a much better wlb The country was from personal experience :)

It’s sort of stupid and ignorant to blame the middle managers . The same managers are great in other companies. Culture comes from the top and you can watch a Bezos interview saying “Fear is a great motivator”. In other words this is what Apple leadership wants I have a manager from the same country who joined Amazon , resisted putting two people on focus in quick succession (they Didnt deserve it ) and then was put on pip for not having a bias for action and was fired. Will you risk being fired for someone else who will anyway get pipd by the next boss ?
