Hello! I am negotiating a comp with Amazon for above position and would like to know where it should land. Would appreciate any help / suggestions. Base: 180k Sign on: 70k Total Equity: 300k / 4y (variable %) Bonus: stock refresh (no numbers yet) Location: Bay Area YOE: 6 Note that these are tentative numbers and not on offer yet #design #compensation
These numbers don't add up. Are you sure the sign on is right (it's both years together?). Seems way too low given your stock. Regardless, target something like 280+ for your TC.
I am still learning here. Final offer yet to come. But from what I heard, the sign-in does go into second year
I also don't know what the yearly bonus look like? Are you counting that in 280 TC?
You’ll get pip’d right after you join with that attitude
Mentioning PIP puts a target on your back
Numbers are fine, bonus is split over 24 months weighted more to first year. You getting like 100 RSUs?
Pip city
What do you mean by PIP city? :)
I don't think PIP is bad. Amazon loves processes for everything. As a company they have a process to PIP people all the time. Even if it's false positive, who cares from business perspective. If the person is really good, they will jump back. I have seen several superstars who have been out on PIP once. It's like a game. There are rules. Play it well. Not trying to be snarky, but life is tough.
It’s a lot more than I got 4 years ago 🤷🏽
I'd suggest asking to up RSU at cost of base. Amazon caps base at 185k, your better of being below cap. You won't see more stocks until year 4-5 likely, so base increase only benefit. Plus our stock has done well historically, that growth helps in y3-4.
Would you explain this a little more? I’m not exactly clear what it means? Could you give an example based on the numbers he gave and why would one do this?
Congrats! What’s your background? I never knew UX designers get paid this well
We do 😁
We are hard to hire and retain and our skill set is more specialized than software engineers so the salary is starting to creep up
Seems like a good one for the YOE. A level 6 is a staff at LinkedIn and the compensation does seem like entry level staff comp to me. Maybe LinkedIn would throw in a bit more on the stock front. But 70K sign on is great. I haven’t hired anyone with that sign on. LinkedIn sign-ons for designers are measly.
Sign on is low but stock is high. My sign on was over 125k at Seattle. RSU at 113
@SirDouglas Is that a one time sign on or spread over a couple of years?
