Position in range, where your base salary falls within a range set by cost of labor in a geographical area. Comcast comp fundamentals training breaks Position in Range into three segments: Beginning, Middle, Higher. Comcast will place you in the <33% in range Beginning segment when starting a new role unless there is a high degree of previous/ direct experience. I’d say that’s fair. It is almost impossible to get above that 33% in range. Especially as the range shifts to adjust to cost of labor and you slide backwards. I have been in role for four years, given exceptional year end reviews, and considered for promotions - a top performer. However, I am at 28% in range. I asked my leader a direct question, “do you think of me as a Beginner?” The answer was no and I should be somewhere near 50%. Comcast comp fundaments state, “Our focus is on your job, your contribution, and where your pay falls in range. We apply a fair and consistent approach to reviewing and adjusting everyone’s pay…” Thing is Comcast, having a behind the scenes point of view to compensation negotiations, that statement is fundamentally untrue.
