Been at LinkedIn for about 4 years, but got dropped off a cliff and most of the motivated and competent members from my cross-functional team left for Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat, and the like. The ride was fun while it lasted I'm also looking for my next play, whether pre-IPO or well-established and would also like to know some insights on great unicorns and such. Places I'm applying to Mid-big company: Facebook Google Snapchat Pinterest Netflix Square Apple Small company (pre-IPO, recent IPO): TikTok Robinhood Instacart Figma Rubrik Stripe (jk) Discord Reddit Databricks Chime Roblox Brex Nextdoor Confluent Affirm I feel like this new batch of pre-IPO companies are not looking to be as good as 2020's Airbnb, Roblox, and DoorDash. But hindsight bias I suppose. I'm okay with working 60+ hours a week, so long as there is a good probability of big upside with IPOs such as years previously with The Trading Desk, Twilio, Okta. No more than 50+ hrs a week for me at F and I know G doesn't really bad WLB most of the time. Not doing a poll here since I know most people will automatically be skewed towards F and G. Thanks for your input and wish you all the best in career journey. Edit: I accepted an E6 offer from Facebook. Following. Also looking for the same suggestions.
Consider Chime. Good culture, good pay, good mission. Probably not crazy upside (ie 10x) but still plenty of upside for ipo.
Roblox has extremely good culture, even comparable to LinkedIn

Love apple but HR sucks. Had to literal to do hand stands to get interview to be ghosted by Recruiter.
It would be awesome to know views of staff engineers who got the refreshers after cliff at LinkedIn. How come @op realized the bad culture after the cliff? 4 years is a long time.
LinkedIn is great even now, dont get me wrong. But things have taken a nosedive compared to what it used to be, starting from getting a new CEO who cares more about results than company values. It takes away from what LinkedIn is and should be. Plus, ive said this before but bad culture has started happening I'd say 1.5 years ago, with influx of inexperienced middle management. Had the culture still been better, had my teammates not left, and if I had even a bit more refreshers, I would not have opted to start looking outside.
Oh so this is a recent change there. Sad to hear, I have a close friend starting there soon. All the best for your search!!
Surprised to see Square in the list with G, FB , Snapchat etc do they pay well ?
I am considering interviewing in LinkedIn and moving from Facebook assuming that I will switch again before hitting the cliff. Is that a crazy idea ?
Depends on your FB refreshers and LinkedIn offer. Go for other companies as well
Why do you think new batch of pre-IPO companies are not looking to be as good as 2020's?
that's a great question... I just have a gut feeling lol. market is a little overvalued and I feel like in general the pre-IPO companies have weaker hype and portfolio in comparison. Think Stripe is very exciting, but don't like their new compensation philosophy
