With everyone running their own metrics. Some want perfect solution, some want optimized solution, some want all parts to be done, some wants to keep interview engaging, some want readable code with comments, some want to see testing Some mofu gatekeepers rejecting highly specialized SWEs because of the dk measuring contest. WTF! Yesterday one Chinese interviewer asked 2D Dynamic programming question on a 2D matrix graph problem. I solved it with recursion/backtracking/DFS approach, passed all test cases. But he wanted me to optimize the runtime. I mentioned that it can be done with DP. Explained him theoretically how it works top down, bottom up. But didn’t code it up because I haven’t practiced DP problems as most companies don’t ask it. Got rejected. Recruiter said, I lacked optimization. I found that optimization using memoization was only 2 LOC change. But I’m sure if I had solved it through memoization by any chance. He would have rejected because I didn’t solve it by bottom up approach. How are interviewer so dumbucks. Don’t HM see what these ICs are asking candidates? No wonders why specialists don’t wanna work at big tech because of these stupid LC monkeys. This is exactly why some positions don’t get filled for months until a unicorn leetcoder fill that position with irrelevant work ex not relevant to the job requirements, get stamped with a new employer in the resume and jump to another company. Hiring restarts! Rinse & repeat 🔁
Listen if they don’t like you no matter how well defined the rubric is they can just ask you a insane follow up that you don’t know and say you couldn’t solve the problem and deny you. If you’re a cute girl they will just ask you 2sum and chat with you
Yep. Ikr! Happened with me in one workday interview: where interviewer asked modified iterative BFS question in 30 min tech screen round. Def insecure SWE. I’m sure if I had asked the same question to him. He wouldn’t have solved it either in an interview setting. And workday is the last company I would expect to ask something hard like this.

Yeah sadistic interviewers do this, they have no-life outside of work so just do dk measuring in interviews. At a startup I got, 1 LC Hard + 1 LC Medium for 45min interview The sadistic Interviewer was SDE2 at 6yoe And I at 2yoe was interviewing for SDE2 role So he intentionally fkd my interview He robbed me my bag I have written long complaint of incompetency of interviewer to time manage interview questions and un-collaborative behaviour.
You must have bruised his ego. Has happened to me couple of times when I was interviewing for staff Eng position and the interviewer was lower than the title I was interviewing for.
