I’m looking for a job that lets me work remotely/ aboard. What I’ve discovered there are a lot of companies that say they are “fully remote” but are in reality have a lot of rules around where you work. I know this has to do with taxes but I’m trying to find companies that truly don’t care. I’m looking to be making CDN or US salary while living in South America(the dream, right) Anyone have advice on companies to check out? What I found out: Ada.io 30 days aboard Shopify 90 days aboard Airbnb 90 days aboard Unity games - 30 days aboard Amazon - I think like 1 week Spotify - potential job transfer of country you want to live Zapier - potential job transfer of country you want to live Companies that seem to not care what country you are in are ones that hire you as a permanente contractor: Deel.com Remote.com Rippling.com Even trying to find start ups that use the above companies to hire Canadians / Americans. Does anyone know which companies hire (true) digital nomads? Or if you know the remote policy you want to share? TC:160k
Forget it
There is not company that will do that. It’s illegal actually.
Not really Canadian government hires remote positions to Canadian citizens working anywhere int he world. It's quite legal. Some countries have tax havens do you don't pay double taxes
What ship are you trying to work aboard?
There's no such thing as a company that "doesn't care". Tax laws are complicated and companies don't have the luxury of just ignoring them. Like you've noticed, the only real option is to be a contractor. That means taxes are your problem, not the company's
Many of my colleagues are working remotely from India illegally. That’re using VPN to cover their tracks. But it won’t be long before they are discovered
How would they be discovered?
Security will get to em soon
It not just taxes, but labor and employment laws as well. It’s not as simple as not caring. Fully remote means you don’t have to come in the office, not work from anywhere.
MS Teams next sw update in Nov after TG will be able to let your IT flag any usage of VPN to scramble IP add and time zone stamp. And most companies will revert to 100% RTO come 2023. They know you have been walking around naked between your bed and bathroom during office hrs since 2020. They know about the mouse jitter
I'm doing a permanent contractor. Fully remote. Digital nomad. Can work from anywhere in the world. But TC 110k. Not sure whether I can get better pay with all these conditions satisfying. Potential TC if in US: 250k
What's the company name?
At best, you can look for a remote company that doesn't care in practice, regardless of what paper policies exist. Then you can live wherever you want and just tell your employer that you live in whatever US place. The above abroad friendly companies may be good places to start. You could be fired upon being discovered, but that's the risk you take. If you don't already have permanent US/CAN work authorization, be very careful about how you claim/prove residency and how you pay taxes.
