I am a Senior Software engineer at Walmart. F, 40 years old. I work really hard but my promo hasn't happened for staff. Maybe I am not ready because I see other staff engineers in my team who are really really smart. I do great at my job but probably not at staff level yet. I have 2 kids and I love spending time with them. My team often asks me if I feel upset about being an X4 as they are 28-30 years old and they are X4 already. I get paid peanuts at Walmart. So I am thinking if I should probably switch to other companies as X5. What are some companies that use Java and have a good wlb? I am really not good at picking up new languages so I definitely want a BE role in Java. Any tips or advise I would really appreciate. No troll please. Also do you recommend I try for staff internally at Walmart first? Because that's an option too. TC 290K

290k and peanutsš¤¦āāļø
Def not peanuts.
290 is as good as most people at the staff level in Walmart
I agree! For x4, stocks are 45k and bonus would be around 30k, which comes to 75k. I know for sure that seniors donāt get paid 215k for sure. This is incorrect information. OP, please provide breakdown and please donāt discourage others by providing wrong TC
This depends on location, even within walmart. For example, many X3s, in sunnyvale, gets paid more than 215k
Salesforce is a good rest and vest Java company. I don't think we're hiring again yet though. But keep your eyes open
290k peanuts...
Because you are not open to learn new tech, stay where you are. 290k is a good salary if your job has good wlb
I didn't mean new tech entirely. Just a new language. I tried learning ruby on rails in my previous job and I was miserable
290k is peanuts? Definitely bay area based and likely sending kids to private schools like Stratford so op feels cash strapped. Your chance of landing a BE dev role that uses Java and paying 400k+is a lot slimmer now than 2 years ago. If f Walmart is flexible for you stay put.
Don't change jobs if you aren't willing to put up the time to learn new things. Changing jobs almost always requires more effort than staying at your current one.
I would not change job based on what others feel, itās your life you make decisions based on what you value most and right for you and family. Life is short and donāt waste time chasing others dream. Wish you all the best!
At X5 u won't have WLB, even at Walmart it's shit place to be
We use Java at Airbnb.
What's the wlb at airbnb? It's been my dream company to work. Any tips or advise to prepare for interviews there. I suck at leetcode tbh, probably why I am at Walmart š I do great in my job though.
