Companies to join as a high performing junior MLE.

Junior MLE (infra) at linkedin for 1 year. Feel unrewarded for my efforts, even though I consistently get 5/5s the company is pausing promotions and refreshers while its competitors are not. Where should I hop to? Meta for example won’t hire junior like me. Some startups you recommend? TC 250k YOE 1

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Stripe sgDS01 Aug 19, 2023

You’re on 250k on 1 YOE in a shitty market. You’re doing better than most. I’d wait until a market recovery which is at least 6 months away.

Workday WorkD Aug 19, 2023

You are not high performing...you are that toxic team mate people on this app complain about

Sonder bvrk4d Aug 25, 2023

And greedy

Meta e-nonshit Aug 19, 2023

High performing e3. Lel

What do you think “consistent” means?

LinkedIn juniorFar5 OP Aug 19, 2023

My continual feedback and midpoint and annual review are 5 in all categories except for some 4s in leadership when I first started. I feel this is quite consistent given my level and YOE. Manager said I am already promoted but it won’t be finalized until September

Microsoft scottygu Aug 19, 2023

You’re gonna need more than one year to be consistent. All you’ve done is set the baseline for yourself. Years two and three will determine your consistency

Why do all linkedin employees worship meta? IMO, linkedin is a much better company to work for than Meta

LinkedIn cikit Aug 19, 2023

Have you worked at LinkedIn? Plus I don't think we worship Meta.... some people uses it to get better offer... and most people I know at least hates Meta so much they even don't consider interviewing there as a prep for other interviews lol

ex-Meta abrakdab Aug 19, 2023

I have a very close friend who worked at linkedin and I know names of all his managers and teammates and we used to discuss their politics. I also interviewed for linkedin and chose meta, again purely based on the brand but should have known better. It was a mistake

What does mle infra do? Tuning hyperparameters?

ex-Meta abrakdab Aug 19, 2023

Nope, data scientists do that and you can actually write a for loop for that. Typically, mle looks at platform issues, like why wasn't a particular model not served. Which things in mlops can be automated, etc. Peripheral stuff has nothing to do with actual modeling other than simple experiments

ex-Meta abrakdab Aug 19, 2023

You do need to know some basic algorithms, but the core work will stay with phds and math heavy degrees. Actual CS engineers have less to gain.

No wonder LI has title inflation

LinkedIn mcconaughy Aug 20, 2023

Makes TC 250k with 1 yoe and still complains. 👌
