What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I left a job within 3 months and I'm being asked to return a $10k signing bonus. What would realistically happen if I didn't pay this bonus? I would assume the cost to bring me to court is higher than that $10k bonus. Any insight would be appreciated here
Not exactly - if they sue you and win and get you to pay their attorney fees - could be considerably higher. But most likely will go to collections
That’s not how legal fees work in America, we aren’t in the British system. You would need to separately sue for legal fees.
Ignore it. Their HR wont let them pursue it. You are sunk cost.
Just return it. Honesty is still a thing.
It’s just business tho
I would assume something like an episode of Dog the Bounty hunter.
Tell them the money has been spent and to f*** off. Realistically they will not try to sue you or send it for collection but HR might note it down in your file in case you plan to return to the company
If you want to gamble, you may not need to pay it, or you might end up owing a lot more than $10k.
Read your offer and employment contract.
This why u should hv included that 10k in ur new offer lol like I would hv told my new company thaaaat cuz they stealing u away🤷♂️
What does your contract say? If it doesn't say anything about it, you're good. If it does say you need to return it (often times there's like a one year requirement or something like that), that's a felony (grand larceny). They'd be completely within their right to file a police report.
It’s a civil matter in no way is it theft
They can hand it over to collections
Does your credit score get affected in that case?
um…yeah. It can decimate your credit score. It is exponentially worse than missing a credit card payment.
