Company better for job security: Bloomberg vs Microsoft

Where is layoff/rif/reorg/pip chance lower? Have onsites with both but worried about recession and economy. Not sure if this hot job market will remain hot and stock market too. Inflation is too high and risk of stagflation is real... With my current tc wherever I get I will take it of course 😂😂 TC:71K

I think they’re both pretty solid to be fair - the main differences will occur based on the specific teams you’re joining in each company. Do you mind sharing how your initial technical screen was with Bloomberg? What sort of questions, how many etc?

Clueless of team. Letcode. Also don't worry if you don't get perfect solution, keep trying and taking hints. I have a feeling rto is driving attrition up at Bloomberg and so I made it to onsite

Bloomberg never lays off in engineering, ever. We've shut down a couple experimental business units and they always found the engineers AND managers jobs at their level in the company. It's also not public and all cash.

I would imagine not being public helps In not having external shareholder pressure...

Yeah definitely. Most of our profits goes to philanthropy if that's something that interests you. Downside is you can end up in a retirement home. But teams are generally quite motivated. Even the older ones. But you do have a few people stuck in their ways. Fortunately they have no power.

Bloomberg does not do layoffs for ENG Working at BBG for 10+ years. Just two levels. Pay raise is really low once you join even if you beat expectation every year. Growth ceilings if you want to remain IC. Great WLB.

Get the offers first. Both are good in this regard

Bloomberg bblalabb May 8, 2022

Around the same. However, Bloomberg never had layoffs. Believe me when I say it, Bloomberg upper management thinks 10 times before give us openings to hire unlike other companies (like FB etc…) that goes on on hiring spree. Also Bloomberg’s revenue strategy is always long term, Every money making product is thought of and strategized over multiple years. Once it starts making money, Bloomberg comes out ahead of its competition and displaces the competitive products in every area. There is very little short term “let’s get something out” mentality, which has its pros and cons.

Op here. Did not get into Bloomberg unfortunately but it's okay I can retry later on...
